Adjusting expectations

Well, preseason I would have been thrilled with 6-6. I think that anything below 7-5 now would be fairly dissapointing.

I think the offense will continue to get better. The line is a huge problem, and I’m hoping that going forward with bell we can reallyn solidify Oline recruiting as well as offensively in general.

Regardless, I see it being really hard to only win 5 games. Pat has already basically avoided the 2-10 or 3-9 type season that gets him fired.

I’ll go 7-5 or 8-4 at this point.

Yahoo Sports Winners and Losers....

PITT mentioned in the Winners category.

Pitt: The Panthers sure do know how to be dramatic. After beating Cincinnati on a late field goal in Week 2, Pitt got a 1-yard TD by Derrick Davis Jr. with 34 seconds to go to win the Backyard Brawl 38-34 over West Virginia. Eli Holstein threw for 301 yards and three TDs while rushing for 59 yards as the game featured three second-half lead changes.

Pitt led 24-17 midway through the third quarter before West Virginia reeled off 17 straight to take a 10-point lead with 4:55 to go. The Panthers cut the lead to seven with 3:06 to go and quickly got the ball back for the game-winning drive after forcing a three-and-out.

October Surprise

Barring the unforeseen, we will be 4-0 headed into October. Not sure when that happened last.

Our ACC schedule begins in October and right now our 3 opponents that month are currently 8-0 (UNC, Cal, Syracuse). Will they all be undefeated when we play them? Unlikely. But they will be favored in most of their games. Cal won’t be favored vs Miami but at least they get them in Berkeley.

So the schedule sets up nicely for us to have some higher profile matchups on a national level. Will the UNC game be between two ranked teams? Any way Syracuse is 6-0 when we play them? I’m hoping Cal is 4-1 when we see them. No possible way they come here 5-0, right? Hopefully we perform in these games because the final stretch of the season won’t be easy.

Thoughts?

O-Line Play is Weak and Play Calling is Worse.....

Early in the 4th and WVU has 11 TFL. That is a telling stat and shows the vulnerability of our o-line. They are double teaming and leaving gaping holes to Holstein. 10 has been under pressure and on the run too much today. Run game is non existent. TE's not helping in any area of the game.

Bell's play calling has been suspect as well. There is still a lot of work to do with this offense.

NCAA Transfer Rule (Eligibility)

We’ve often been seeing the question raised about transfer “immediate” eligibility on the boards, and many are unsure because of the seemingly continuous changes to the rules. I pulled this off the NCAA site and assume this is the current rule. I would think most of you know the rule but I’ve seen folks ask the question and not get a definitive response. So here it is.

The Division I Council on Wednesday unanimously adopted a package of rules changes to allow transferring student-athletes who meet certain academic eligibility requirements to be immediately eligible at their new school, regardless of whether they transferred previously. The council's action is not final until the meeting concludes Thursday and is subject to ratification by the Division I Board of Directors at its meeting later this month. If ratified, the rules would be effective immediately.

Specifically, to be immediately eligible after a transfer, undergraduate student-athletes would have to have left their previous school while academically eligible and in good standing (not subject to disciplinary suspension or dismissal) and meet progress-toward-degree requirements at their new school before competing. For graduate transfer student-athletes to be eligible, they would have to earn a degree from their previous school, leave while academically eligible and be enrolled as a full-time postgraduate student while continuing to satisfy minimum academic standards.

"With these rule changes, NCAA members continue to prioritize long-term academic success for college athletes who transfer, while supporting their opportunity to compete immediately," said Lynda Tealer, deputy athletics director at Florida and chair of the council. "We hope that this practical approach to transfer eligibility requirements will encourage student-athletes to make well-informed decisions about transferring and the impacts such a move could have on their ability to graduate on time in their degree of choice, particularly as it relates to transferable credits."

Moving forward, student-athletes are expected to enter the Transfer Portal within their sport's notification-of-transfer windows, which Division I members emphasized are important for providing transparency to student-athletes and coaches for recruitment opportunities, roster management and financial aid planning. There will continue to be exceptions to the legislated transfer windows, including for the departure of a head coach or a discontinued sport. Student-athletes who plan to enroll as graduate students at their next school can enter the portal at any time during the academic year but must enter the portal prior to the conclusion of their respective sports' final transfer windows.

In addition to reviewing the council actions during its meeting next week, the Division I board will consider directing the Committee on Academics to examine criteria for academic waivers and consider the creation of a Transfer Academic Progress Rate, which would give real-time information about the academic health of a school's four-year undergraduate transfer student-athletes.

The board also will consider charging the Committee on Academics to study the creation of a Graduation Passport, which would specifically track academic progress and will provide a measure of graduation outcomes for student-athletes who transfer. This resource would be the first metric of its kind to specifically track graduation for students who transfer. Currently, the federal graduation rate does not count transfers as graduates, and the NCAA's graduation success rate generally assumes outcomes based on the academic status at the time of a student-athlete's departure.

Explain Pantherlair live YouTube show to me

I tried listening to Chris’ live shows on Heather Lyke and last night after WVU win.

I won’t lie. I turned off each after a few minutes. I get the Lyke show was going to be speculation but I was struggling to see where it was going to go because there was no real attempt to move it forward.

Last night Chris kind of went on for what seemed like an eternity on how Eli didn’t see me to have it until he did.

I think I turned it off when he said the show might be one to two hours long. Although intrigued as to how that could be possible without guests or interactive call in’s I just didn’t have the desire to find out.

So asking for those that listen are there guests or “call ins”?
