Allen Greene

Greene is listed as a potential candidate for the just vacated MSU AD position. He was one of the finalists for that position four years ago when Allen Haller was chosen. I would really doubt that he would be 'sinterested since he just started at Pitt. Plus Bubba Cunningham, North Carolina AD, would probably be the choice if he wants it since he worked with the new president at MSU and is from Michigan.

Article Recapping some weekend news for Pitt athletics

It wasn't a super busy weekend for Pitt, outside of graduation on Sunday, but here are a few things that happened across Pitt athletics.

The merger and what it means

As many of you have read and asked about this merger with On3 sports and what it means for us. So far, from what I can tell, nothing other we will be joining forces with another very large network and pooling resources to make this network and by extension this site even better. I am actually excited about it because On3 has a much bigger staff of national experts. I think Joe Tipton is one of the best in the business at tracking the transfer portal and dealing with agents on the basketball side and that's what we need. It sounds like the merger will happen and be finalized before football season and On3 does a really good job of covering the actual sports. In short, you will probably not notice much of a change other than your subscription will be for a much bigger and more comprehensive network - i.e. more bang for your bucks.

I will continue to update as I get more information but as of now that's about all I have for you.

Recruiting Article Pitt picks up Australian wing Henry Cody Lau

Jeff Capel has landed another one from overseas. Henry Cody Lau, a 6-8 wing from Sydney, Australia, is an athletic slasher who finishes well at the rim. He's young and has to grow, but he's played well at the HS and U-20 Australia national championship levels. He signed a development contract with the Sydney Kings of the NBL (Australia's pro league). I don't know how much he'll contribute next season, if at all, but he's a nice prospect. Intriguing physical tools.

The next three years will be decisive about conferences and CFB

Previously I wrote about how long it will take for Pitt, Syracuse, and BC to realize that they are being treated as second class citizens of the ACC and the financial picture for these programs to make sense of how they want their athletics emphasized. Much the same can be said about Virginia Tech and even Georgia Tech.

As we know, the NIL has been the "Wild West" allowing the programs with the greatest number of alumni (generous alumni please) or programs with corporate and major donors to buy away talent from other programs. It has been a bidding war and it has exposed the worst of universities and athletes. Commitments mean absolutely nothing and there are no repercussions to programs buying away other programs athletes nor any repercussions on the athletes (it is a joke to call them students when they are bought and paid athletes.)

There is a settlement at hand which will compel universities to pay the players directly with the caveat that roster numbers will be reduced. We need to see just how easily Pitt and others can pay out $20 million PLUS and will things change then? I am not optimistic.

Elliot Donald & others

I kind of tuned out to the Pitt kids that went into the portal.

I'm surprised that many haven't landed yet. Any chance any of these guys come back? Or has that ship sailed? Does anyone consider any of these guys as regrettable losses? I don't really, but would still like to have Elliot Donald around, even if he's not getting playing time.

Braydon Hawthorne....

As most of you know he is visiting Pitt. He is a four-star kid who had previously committed to WVU but decommitted. I think it is great that Capel got him on campus but looking at his offer sheet (he visited Kentucky will visit Duke) is it realistic to think Capel can land him? I mean this is the world we live in these days - in previous years teams would have no shot if Kentucky and Duke are calling but is a team - Pitt - willing to outbid them? We probably know the answer to this but there is always a chance.......

OT: History of Pittsburgh trolleys

Very long article, but fascinating. Especially from 1967 onwards, if you want to see how we got from an expansive rail network to where it is today.
