article on ncaa settlement

long article but has good information. walk-ons (all sports) and others on the chopping block. what a total mess.

Observations

- I’ve been fortunate to personally witness many of the Pitt defenses of the 80’s. Last night’s win can stand alongside any single game performance I can remember.

I’m not saying this defense is equivalent because those defenses literally had future college and professional hall if gamers. Nonetheless, for one game. Complete domination.

- It would be inappropriate to say it was efficient or effective. It would be highly appropriate to describe it as completely dominant and that’s not an embellishment.

- Interceptions - What’s somewhat lost in the brilliance of the dominance, capped by the interceptions, is the fact that each interception opportunity was actually executed.

How many times have you seen a great defensive effort only to say if they had only caught the easy interception or two where the color announcer makes a joke on that’s why the position player plays defense and not offense?

Despite level of difficulty, Pitt defensive players not only made each interception they were in position to make, but scored as well.

- No Turnovers - Speaks for itself, but it seems like turnover beget turnovers for the other team as well.

- Penalties- Similarly, sloppy turnover games where the score gets out of hand early often turn into a flag flying game where the winning team gets full of themselves, loses its focus and discipline as eager backups seeking to make a play will do so with an over exuberance despite the cost. Pitt maintained their competitiveness with composure till the end. Impressive!

- Narduzzi Defensive Players Signature - Confident and borderline cocky. Maybe just outright cocky, especially the defensive backs. Been that way during entirety of Narduzzi’s tenure.

- Defensive Coaching - I can’t remember in-season improvement as evident as I have this season. It’s not just the statistical improvements, but it’s evident in the speed the players are playing their respective positions.

- It’s one thing knowing one’s assignment and another thing understanding the concept that are being sought to achieve. When both are understood, players play fast and instinctively.

- If I’m a high school recruit I come away excited about Pitt.

Week 3 ACC TV schedule

noon: ESPN - Memphis @ Florida State
noon: ACCN - Louisiana Tech @ NC State
12:45: SECN - BC @ Missouri
3:30: ESPN2 - WVU @ Pitt
3:30: ACCN - Ball State @ Miami
6:30: CW - Mississippi @ Wake Forest
8:00: ACCN - Maryland @ Virginia
10:30: ESPN - San Diego State @ Cal

Stream-only games
3:30: ACCNX - VMI @ Georgia Tech
6:00: ACCNX - UConn @ Duke
6:00: ACCNX - North Carolina Central @ North Carolina
6:00: ESPN+ Virginia Tech @ Old Dominion

- I think Memphis gets it done. FSU is bad.

- CW gets a great game for them. A #5 ranked SEC team??? How'd they pull that? Winston-Salem is going to be Oxford North.

- BC/Mizz starting at 11:45 AM local. Too many ACC games not televised. Been saying for years they need 4 windows. If Cal/Stan/SMU arent available then they need to do 11, 2:15, 5:30, 8:45 starts. Start the games on the ESPN app if the game before it runs long. UConn @ Duke could have been the 11 AM game. Maryland @ UVa at 8:45. DMV fans would go to a MNF game at 8:30 with work and school the next say. 8:45 on a Saturday night is fine. Wisconsin (vs Alabama), Tulsa, Illinois, and Texas Tech all kick at 11 AM on Saturday. An ACC team playing 1 11AM game every 2 or 3 years is fine.

- Big games for Pitt, Cal, and UVa. Wins could put them in that convo of who gets to play Clemson assuming Miami Miami's.

Shutting me up

So I never got around to making this post a couple weeks ago and ended up deleting it in my notes (yeah I was crafting a post in my notes for here because I’m a ****in loser)

“Want to see this team do a few things:

Win a game with the defense✅ (Cal)

Next I’d like to see them win a game comfortably. Cannot keep winning close games with comebacks or missed field goal. Need to beat a team by 2 or so scores. Would like to see them beat Cuse something like 35-20✅

I’d like to see them get a little more consistency in the run game. Don’t need to pound the ball 40 times a game. Not asking for that. But need to chip away more 6, 8, 10 yard gains consistently and take some pressure off Holstein.”

They’re shutting me up and I love it. I was not worried about last night. I was weirdly expecting a win until I picked my friend up to go to the game and he said he was worried. Then I was lmao.

Either way, let’s get the last of my questions going. Get that run game going a little for Eli!!!

H2P!!!!!

Pitt played lights out on a National Stage! Finally! Crowd was good! Could have been better but Thursday nights always difficult in Pittsburgh.

Let’s enjoy this team/season. Pitt has something special brewing. Kudos to Narduzzi and entire coaching staff! They really hit the transfer portal which has done wonders for this program. New AD in place to hopefully bring in even more talent and/or keep players around with better NIL!

Pitt made Larry Legend proud last night!!

Hail to Pitt!!

The Morning Pitt: 10/25/2024 - The morning after Pitt's blowout win

On the morning after Pitt beat Syracuse 41-13, we went live for a special edition of the Morning Pitt to talk about the win and more with comments and questions from Pitt fans.

Predictions for Syracuse

Thursday night game against a 5-1 Syracuse on ESPN. And Pitt is currently around a 5.5 point favorite. What do we all think?

It seems people are pretty worried about the Syracuse and their offense. Their offense is good and McCord has played very well. But Pitt has played well too and so has their offense.

I think alot of people are thinking of the Cal game and the offenses struggled, but I think Cal is probably the 2nd best defense they will have played all year and Eli (and Bell) will learn from that game.

Syracuse doesnt have a great defense and they do give up almost 7 yards a play.

I think Pitt's offesne bounces back, Eli gets back over 300 yards passing and gets 3 TD passes. I think he runs for around 60 too. Reid has very good game with around 150 all purpose yards as well. I even think Hammond gets in the action a little more this week and run pretty well. I also think Kenny Johnson has a big game this week, and has over 100 yards and at least 1 TD.

Syracuse offesne will score and get theirs at times, but I just think Pitt's D is getting better and will make the necessary stops needed to win this game and Syracuse's D will not. Pitt will come up with a couple big sacks and force a turnover or two.

I say Pitt wins 38 - 30
