Recruiting Update Former City League standout visiting Pitt this weekend

Rashan Murray was a standout defensive back at in the City League, and he spent the last three seasons at Cal (Pa.). This past season was his best; he had four interceptions and was named a D2 second-team All-American. He went into the transfer portal in early December and will be at Pitt tomorrow for a visit.

Murray tells me other schools have been in contact with him, but Pitt is the only visit he has scheduled right now. Obviously, the Panthers could use another cornerback in the rotation after Ryland Gandy left, and Murray could slot in potentially as the No. 3.

OT: “A Complete Unknown”

Saw it yesterday here in Hilton Head. Music is awesome. Lots of interesting back story’s about Bob Dylan’s life.
Joan Baez was a love interest. Acting and music were exceptionally good. Highly recommend on a cold day in the Burgh.
2:15 minutes long. He was a creative genius.
I was never a big Dylan fan, but my bride and I are now…..

Lazinger's Lists - 2025 New Years Day Cal win

I was waiting until halftime to live bet this game but the comeback started early. Some thoughts:
  • I wasn't super impressed with Stojakovic. In fact, we probably blow out Cal even worse if they don't make 24 FTs.
  • Graham twins combined for 32 minutes, 5 fouls, and 4 rebounds.
  • The funniest part about this Lowe performance is he actually didn't really shoot well. But 27 points, 8-8 from the line, and really never let Cal get back in it.
  • This was by far the best Corhen game. 7-8 from the field, 19 points, 11 boards, including 4 on the offensive glass.
  • I'll still never understand how a sniper like Delalic can be 44% from 3 but shoot FTs so poorly. It's not just the % either. They all have bad spin and most aren't close.
  • We are not going to be able to lose any stinkers this year with how poor the ACC. Hopefully we smoke Stanford and set up a big game with Duke.
  • I still can't believe we aren't ranked. Four teams in the top 25 have 3 losses. 2 have 4.

The 3-2-1 Column: Detroit, the season, the roster, hoops and more

In this week's 3-2-1 Column, we've got some final thoughts on Pitt's trip to Detroit and the 2024 season plus the portal, the roster, the hoops season and more.

WVU Game Going Thru Photos

I hadn't been to a game at the Pete since Aaron Gray was playing, live in SoCal and detest cold weather. Anywho, friend had a ticket for me for the Clemson game, flew in and got a ticket from a Pitt fan for the basketball game.

Tonight I was looking thru my phone photos and reminiscing about that game. How the hell has that hoopie team become the darlings of NCAAB upsets? They were one of the most horrendous teams I have seen in a long time. We put a severe ass whooping on them, and I came outta that game figuring, without knowing their schedule, that they'd be lucky to win 5 games this year. The final score of that game was a lot closer than it deserved to be.

For our NET value, it is good. For my tastes fvck the hoopies.

JMO...ASU got screwed....

In the last minute of regulation. ASU receiver caught a pass just over mid field with less than a minute in regulation and closing in on a winning field goal attempt. He got nailed while still defenseless with a helmet right to the face. Should have been 15 yards for targeting but they reviewed it and said no targeting. The defender planted the crown of his helmet right in the receiver's face and just about knocked him out. If that wasn't a classic target I don't know what is. Should have had the ball inside the 35 with time left.

Catholics vs Pedophiles

Those shirts should be hot sellers. Should be an interesting week for the high school on Pitt's campus since half the school is ND fans and the other half are PSU fans. Narduzzi isn't allowed within 500 feet.

Pedo question though: how many Western PA kids get on the field when it matters?

Also, this sports writer says we can't make Sandusky jokes anymore:

Does the defense change out of necessity next year?

I think I know what most people are thinking and I don't want this to be a bash Narduzzi thread, but an inquiring mind has to ask if Narduzzi's hand is forced to change his defense schematically a bit going into next year. I obviously dont see a complete overhaul but if we realistically look at what the defense was this year and whats happened in the portal for next year so far, i think changes have to be made for it to be a more successful season.

Narduzzi's defense absolutely MUST have a good pass rush from the front four and it MUST have excellent cover corners if it is to be successful. With that said, pitts DL really struggled to put a pass rush together this year and a bunch of those guys are gone now anyways. And when you have the lack of NIL funds that pitt has, finding difference making DL in the portal is going to be EXTREMELY hard to do, because pitt needs multiple of them and every team in the country is looking for the same thing. Pitts DE group doesnt appear at this time to have a difference maker AND theres no depth.

Which brings me to the back end of the defense. Gandy is transferring. And what this scheme requires of DB's is already extremely difficult (honestly sometimes ridiculous) WITH a disruptive front 4. Take that away and I just dont see how you can expect success on the back end since, again, it doesnt appear that there are difference makers back there either.

None if this is meant to be insulting to current players on the roster, its just a realistic view of how i see the x's and o's going into '25. All of this is to say, fans generally view Narduzzi as stubborn and unwilling to change. He made a huge change on the offensive side of the ball with hiring Bell. Is his hand forced to change defensively this upcoming year or does the defensive ship presumably sink deeper?

Question for those most knowledgeable about the rule book ...

In the technical foul fest in the first half ...

GDG got a dunk, and Austin picked up the ball and tossed it DJ Campbell who threw it back at Austin.

Both were called for technicals, and the refs go to the monitor and Szelc gives Capel a T.

California hits 1 of 2 and Pitt gets the ball out of bounds.

I'm not 100% sure why Pitt gets possession there.

At first I thought since Pitt and Cal both got technicals, it went to alternating possession, but that wasn't it because the arrow remained with Pitt after the play.

In the play by play, Austin and Campbell are both charged with technicals and turnovers.

The only thing I can figure is that Zach gets his T first and (and is charged with the turnover then -- even though Pitt doesn't have possession? -- in scoring, you simply cannot have a turnover without possession as I would understand it).

Then Campbell gets his T and turnover giving possession back to Pitt?

(Capel's T has no impact on possession).

Maybe I'm overthinking it. Maybe the refs just screwed up.
