Browns Getting a Dome

I'm not at all a fan of watching football played indoors, but I suspect we'll see more of this stuff as stadiums are tailored toward a new age of fans who don't want to sit in the cold when they cold watch a game in HD on a 72-inch TV. Likely won't be long until there is a phone charger in every seat and who knows what else? Perhaps there may also be some Super Bowl hosting aspirations factoring into the decision, but I'm not sure. Other events, though, I would imagine could also be hosted.

Looks like this will be in Brook Park, OH - about 20 minutes SW of Cleveland.

Pitt Basketball 'Open practice'

The Pitt basketball team is hosting an open practice today of sorts, with members of Alliance 412, the Panther Club, and Oakland Zoo invited to watch the team workout today.

The media also got that invite, so I am here at the Petersen Events Center getting my first look at the 2024-25 Panthers.

I probably can't get too, too detailed today with like specific lineups. But I will share some thoughts.

ACC analysis

Miami continues to get all the officiating breaks and has the most favorable schedule. If they are unbeaten going into the ACC championship, they are in the playoffs.

ND is likely to be the worst playoff team unless Army or Navy beats them or maybe a mediocre USC squad

Clemson keeps rolling but UVA showed today that they won’t be an easy win for Pitt. Not sure a 2 loss Clemson makes it unless the 2nd loss is to an undefeated Miami in a close ACC title matchup.

Of the 4 undefeated in ACC play teams:
Miami plays none of the other 3
Clemson plays at Pitt
SMU hosts Pitt
And Pitt has both SMU and Clemson

Of the 3 one loss teams
Duke hosts SMU and visits Miami
Syracuse visits Pitt and hosts Miami
VT hosts Clemson and visits Cuse and Duke

It seems pretty clear 2 of these 7 teams will play for the ACC championship

Austin and Lowe on Brandin 'Beebah' Cummings

Yesterday in the interviews, I asked Pitt's two veterans Zack Austin and Jaland Lowe about freshman guard Brandin Cummings. Cummings also goes by the nickname Beebah, so if you aren't used to that by now, you'll hear him referred to as that quite often this season.

I asked Lowe in the sense that he and Bub weren't five-star top 50 guys, and neither was Cummings. But if he saw himself in the way Cummings is competing so far.

Lowe: “Yea for sure. It’s just, Coach does a great job of recruiting guys of who…just recruiting in general, but to get a guy like Beebah, whose hard-nosed, gritty, can score. It helps a lot because we’re overlooked, and to be overlooked is not a good feeling. Coach did a good job of getting Beebah, and he’s going to come out here and prove why he shown’t have been overlooked, and we need a guy like that.”

I asked Austin in the sense, does he see some similar traits in Cummings, as a freshman guard who might outplay their ranking like Bub and Jaland.

Austin: “I think they’re at the same place, honestly, in just their own separate ways. Bub can do PG, shooting guard, Lowe is more of a pure point, and then Beebah might be the best scorer, like scorer, I ever played with. The shot making ability he’s got is second to none. There’s not a shot he don’t like and there’s not a shot we don’t tell him not to take. But Beebah is just going to be one of them ones, I’m telling you.”
