Potential SMU Gameday

OSU vs PSU announced for Big Noon Kickoff. It is possible to do both Gameday and BNK. Assuming Pitt and SMU both win this week, these two matchups will likely be the only ranked matchups. If this is the scenario, it feels like SMU would get Gameday. Also, the noon slot is taken, so we have the hope for the 3:30pm ABC slot, or the 7pm ESPN slot.

Calling it now … 3:30pm Gameday Pitt at SMU

Elijah Dotson, should we be concerned?

Mainly a question for jim or Chris, seeing reports he had a good visit to Michigan state this past week and wants an official. Have you guys heard any indication he plans to leave his commitment to Pitt? Or is this gonna be another Jordan bass battle where we all have to wait for the final dotted line to be signed? Just get a nervous feeling with him, kids tape looks legit

OT: Russ Wilson

Is going to be a disaster IMO. There’s a reason the Steelers are 2.5 point dog at home and I’d imagine the switch to him is a big reason.

I’ve been vocal in my criticism of fields, but the only thing really sustaining the Steelers offense are his legs and ability to extend plays. I frankly think Russ will get killed behind the line.

We will see. I’m sure this gets trolled if he does well, but I really don’t see this ending well. Maybe Arthur smith will surprise me and completely revamp the offense but I doubt it.

The Morning Pitt: 10/22/2024 - Five reasons for optimism in the final six games

The second half of the season is huge for Pitt, and on today's Morning Pitt we're looking at five reasons to be optimistic about the Panthers head into the final six games.

Reporting on NIL

None of this is particularly surprising, but interesting nonetheless to confirm the general assumptions around NIL.

1. Men's sports vastly outearn women's.
2. Football and MBB are where most $$ go.
3. Very few large scale deals, but those ironically seems to be more equal opportunity, as Olympic athletes can now cash in.
4. Data is at best some level of opaque even in the places where reporting is required by state law.
5. Football NIL outlays over 3 years at Texas were ~$21MM and ~$8.7MM at LSU. Would not be shocked if the actual numbers for both teams were close to double the Texas number between players not reporting NIL deals and/or the old school bag men.
6. Still a very murky world with few rules.
7. Yet again underscores the need for the athletes to be school employees with contracts generally public knowledge.

NCAA Men's Soccer Committee Rankings

Pitt #2

Ohio State is #1 but they remind me a ton of Kentucky from a few years ago. A non-traditional program racking up wins in a mid-major league, which is what B10 soccer is.
