Have really enjoyed watching these "meaningless" bowl games

Obviously our game was great and when I thought we were going to lose after the late UCLA score, I had that involuntary depression hit me. Meant more to me than I thought it would. Regardless of opt-outs or non CFP bowl games, been a very enjoyable bowl season. The kids playing and the fans attending/watching definitely don't seem to think of their games as meaningless.

To those who’ve been on the boards….

…and in the game threads and in the Pete for this last 6 years of complete mess…..

HAIL TO F*CKING PITT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plenty of time to break things down and worry about exactly what our ceiling is and where this could go…

But for now it looks like there will actually be relevant Pitt basketball in February.

And for those of us who’ve stuck through this whole mess, man does that taste sweet.

Hail to Pitt and Hail to @Wanstash21

My Sun Bowl story

I covered the basketball game today, and so I was handling the post game stuff for that, and only half paying attention to the football game that was playing on the jumbotron at the Pete. After Nick Patti's pick six to make it 28-14 UCLA, I decided to get on the road to drive home to Johnstown and planned to stop somewhere along the way to watch if it got close. Well it was 28-all pretty quickly. I found somewhere in Murrysville to watch the game. And once UCLA went ahead, I just decided to get on the road again before the final :40 seconds played out.

Basically I listened to the ending on the radio and I still haven't seen it yet.

Pretty wild day all around for Pitt sports.

Wins from 2021 - 2022

Power 5 teams with more win over the last 2 years than Pitt:
1. Georgia: 27-1
2. Michigan: 25-2
3. Alabama: 23-4
4. Ohio St:: 22-3
5. Clemson: 21-8

That's it. That's the list. Other notables:

6. Notre Dame: 20-6
T7. Pitt: 20-7
T7. Oregon: 20-7
T7. Utah: 20-7

17. Penn St: 17-8
50. West Va: 11-14

So hopefully Utah passes us on Monday.

The journey was a total mess this year and they left a lot on the table but I don't think I'll ever call a 9-4 season a disappointment for Pitt.

Pitt was missing a lot of key players on defense in the Sun Bowl, but that didn't stop the Panthers from stopping UCLA in the second half.

The Panther-Lair Post-Game: Reactions to Pitt's win in the Sun Bowl

Pitt finished 2022 by beating UCLA in the Sun Bowl. After the game, we went live to talk about the win, the season and a lot more.

Beating two ranked teams - same day

As printed in an article in the Tribune-Review:

Pitt’s two victories over ranked opponents Friday — the basketball team defeated No. 25 North Carolina earlier in the day at Petersen Events Center — got author and Pitt historian Sam Sciullo Jr. thinking:

“I can’t think of a same-day, football/basketball win combo to match this since Dec. 7, 1963,” he wrote in a text.

• Pitt defeated Penn State in football, 22-21, to finish 9-1.

• Pitt defeated Duquesne in basketball, 69-67 in overtime, in the Steel Bowl final at Fitzgerald Field House.

“If someone can come up with something better, bring it on,” Sciullo wrote.

Absent injury I’m not sure I've seen a player hurt his draft stock more playing in a bowl game.

Stupid taunting when up. 3 INTs. Sulk by yourself on the sideline. Quit on your team an limp to the locker room. Come back to the sideline and chest bump after UCLA takes the lead.

Wouldn’t touch this clown with a 10 foot pole.

Lol. Should’ve just opted out.
