ACC Rooting interests this weekend

Well, with no Pitt game to stress over this weekend, thought I'd take a look at the ACC schedule and look at who I want to win each game.

VT-Miami - Canes need to keep winning for the sake of the top of the ACC
L-Ville-ND, NIU-NCST, Holy Cross-Cuse, Louisiana-WF - Go ACC teams
UNC-Duke - Tough one, but I want UNC to take this week into a bit of a spiral going into our game
Stanford-Clemson - Same as the Canes, but important that the cream of the ACC keeps winning
FSU-SMU - F the Noles.

Particularly if L'ville can beat ND this week and hopefully knock the Irish out of playoff contention, I'm rooting for the scenario where the ACC gets 2 bids to the playoff.

OT: PIAA Football

Off week so I thought these observations may be interesting to some. Looking at HS football rankings, it looks like the western part of the state is dominating. I am taking 6A schools out of the conversation since St Joe's Prep, LaSalle, and Roman are clearly gaming the system and ruining the 6A PIAA tournament. If you look at the 5A and 4A groups, the western part of the state is very strong and represented well in the rankings. There has been a drop in football participation in the eastern part of the state. We are seeing teams not fielding reasonably sized JV teams as many kids are playing "up". I also think other sports (and more private schools) are gaining popularity quicker in the eastern part of the state.

Pitt's 2024-25 men's basketball schedule

Pitt's 2024-25 men's basketball schedule was released Tuesday night, and it is highlighted by five games against power-conference opponents in the non-conference and a 20-game conference slate that features a trip to Dallas and some of the ACC's most storied venues.

Anyone See Reggie Bush is Trying to Bankrupt Many Athletic Departments

He's suing USC and Pac 12 for lost NIL revenues from his college time. If he wins, that will surely bankrupt many schools and/or conferences.

Wonder, by his logic, could I sue my ex-employer for wages I didn't earn in today's dollars for when I was working. I'm happily retired, but have no thoughts of going back for more, hell, they send me money every month as it is.

Recruiting Update Another new 2025 offer

Today, Pitt offered arguably one of the hottest prospects in the country, Chaz Coleman out of Ohio. In the last month, Coleman has added offers from Ole Miss, Kentucky, Illinois, Purdue, Penn State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, and now Pitt. He plays QB for Harding High School in the Youngstown area, but I think OLB or DE is where he ends up. Very good athlete. Has a D2 BBall offer as well.

Pitt Men's Soccer ranked #1 in the nation (per coaches' poll)

#1 Pitt
#2 Stanford
#3 North Carolina
#5 Denver (@Pitt Oct 7th)
#12 Clemson
#16 SMU (Pitt beat 3-1)
#17 Virginia Tech

Next game @ #17 Virginia Tech Sept 27th; next home game Wed Oct 2nd vs Howard.

This is the second time Pitt men's soccer has been ranked #1...it previously obtained #1 during the strange COVID season, if I recall correctly.

As far as I know, this is the first time in school history that Pitt has ever had two #1 ranked varsity athletic programs at the same time (men's soccer and volleyball).

Looking forward (because we are fans, not players) the top 4 teams in the ACC are

Clemson, Miami, Louisville and Pitt (for argument's sake) If you look at all the unbalanced schedules it appears that Louisville will have highest bar in the competition. Louisville play Pitt, Clemson, Miami and Notre Dame (NC). Everyone else plays only two of top 4 teams and none of the remaining teams play Notre Dame. Clemson plays Pitt and Louisville; also S. Carolina (NC). Miami has the easiest path playing Louisville and Pitt.

I think we will get in ahead of Louisville even with a loss at Louisville (head to head) because of the heavier schedule. Clemson at home is going to be key to getting back to the conference championship. If Pitt wins this and has a similar record in conference, Pitt would get edge for tie-breaker. TBH, no idea how the tie breaker is set up if a 3 or 4 way tie occurs.

Hail to Pitt!
