Who Remembers the Astro Blue Bonnet Bowl ?

Pitt lost to Texas. I remember Larry Wanke coming off the bench to toss three tds but Pitt lost 32-27.. But the thing I remember most about this game was the last BB game. It was played the Astro Dome but like 23 thousand showed up despite the fact that it was played in Texas. The Bowl disbanded the following year and I remember reading that the teams didn’t get their share. It was on New Years Eve I believe. If you do remember it you are an old dude like me!

Drew Allar

This probably doesn’t need it’s own thread but…

Has there been a more overhyped quarterback in recent memory? I mean he gets talked about like he’s a Heisman finalist and one of the next prodigous NFL quarterbacks. He is big and he can throw a ball far. Cool. I don’t recall him ever looking elite for a half, let alone an entire game. He routinely misses easy throws and goes like 12/20 for 150 yards.

That throw to Notre Dame at the end of the game though…beautiful. Maybe my favorite pass of the year 😉 Thank you for saving us from having to watch Penn State play in a national championship with that one Drew!

Heather wasn’t canned soon enough. Extending this clown…

….was malpractice. The end of game offensive failings are a punctuation mark on the fact this incompetent(apparently untouchable staff) are not up to the task. You may not be able to fire Capel at the end of this season but if he is not forced to clear that bench then this program gets what it deserves….spoiler…it deserves disappointment.

Not impressed by Sean McVay today

I thought that play calling was piss poor. A couple 3rd and shorts in the first half when they loaded up and ran right into a brick wall. Then on 3rd and 3 late, with the field spread and knowing that it was 4-down territory, I thought they should have tried to hit them with a draw.

Weather couldn't have benefitted the Eagles any more, though. That was homefield advantage on steroids. Not a bad model to emulate if you're the Steelers. Need to keep devoting high draft capital to the lines.

Kelsey coached CIRCLES around Jeff

**** man. I hate making these threads but I’m so ****ing irate right now

Capel has fixed NOTHING .

The same issues that we identified week one are even WORSE now.

And there’s been zero sign he can fix it.

Kelsey draws up these perfect plays for his guys. Knows when to use timeouts. Always had an answer

Capel just be rolling the ball out and refusing to make adjustments

The team continues these stupid drives into the teeth

The team continues to have massive defensive lapses

The team continues to have ludicrous shot selection

The team continues TO GET MURDERED ON THE GLASS

And he never subs so they’re exhausted at the end!

This tweet is a prime example of why coaching matters

Although this is about Villanova, look at the difference in win totals and not making the NCAA Tournament as soon as Jay Wright retired.

That's why if Pitt could get a better coach who actually understands X's and O's and would bring in much better assistants, I think we wouldn't only be invited to a play-in game in 7 seasons now.

The SEC - just a different thing entirely

Beamer gets an $8.15 million contract for leading SC to a 9-4 season. That makes him the SEC’s NINTH highest paid coach.

For comparison sake, Narduzzi at 6.5 million is the 4th highest paid in the ACC, at least when he was extended

Chapel vs Lampkin

While 23 rebounds is a historic number, Lampkin came into the game as a known immovable object. What I saw during the game was Pitt taking advantage of the lack of speed in pick and rolls and back screens. The staff knowing that G gets knocked off the blocks by a stiff wind and that Cam is a slow leaper, chose not to play Kante more. Why? Maybe to reduce the number of fouls or efficiency on switches, but it was deliberate.

While I also think that Capel should substitute more often, his coaching style is to go about 7 deep. I recommend looking at the ACC basketball stats website. Pitt has two of the top players in the minutes played category, ….and Lampkin rebounds against everyone, yes Pitt gave up the most. It is an informative journey through stats to see where Pitt actually stands at this point in the season, even given the fact that the ACC schedule is quite unbalanced.
