We may get a new on campus football stadium soon but not for the reason you think

I have seen every argument possible about why we need an on campus stadium (of which I am not in favor). An issue that most people missed during this election was the future administration's disdain for higher education both because of political leanings (left) and the absurd price. It is early but it does sound like Trump's administration is going to closely look at endowments and taxing them along with potential penalties. They plan to create the "American Academy" with these funds. It was explained to me that the best way to move around those punitive measures would be to spend the endowment. Real estate and construction are the most conservative measures and would easily move around any type of federal tax scrutiny. PITT has the 29th largest endowment ($5.5 billion) in the country and would certainly be under attack. I think much depends on how aggressive the endowment tax would be (it could be upwards of 20%) but PITT would need to quickly take money out of the endowment for a project to benefit the University. A stadium is a no brainer. They would actually lose money by not buying land and building the stadium.

Lazinger's Lists - Stanford 2024 home win

I have to say...this team is at the point where I just expect them to win. I was never worried when we were down. Some thoughts:
  • This game would have been an even bigger blowout if Stanford didn't make 23 Fts. I thought we defended well but we did well to limit their damage to Raynaud. They only had one other player in double figures.
  • When Ish is on, he's a joy to watch. He didn't miss a single shot inside the arc nor any of his FTs. Also just a great rebounding guard.
  • Speaking of rebounding, it's clear that Corhen is focusing more on it. The MSU game is the only game since November where he didn't have at least 5 boards.
  • I've been all over the twins but great game from both of them. GDG had 12 points, 3 blocks, 3 assists, 5 boards, and 2 threes. Great game. Love seeing Jorge make both his threes and pulling down 3 boards in only 15 minutes.
  • Lowe continues to be fantastic while struggling to shoot a bit. I'd like to see him cut down on the TOs a bit but I guess you can't be too upset when he has just as many steals as TOs.
  • Want to be ranked? Beat Duke and we will get everyone's attention. Nice back to back opportunities here. We need to win one and I suspect it's likely to be Lville.

OT: “A Complete Unknown”

Saw it yesterday here in Hilton Head. Music is awesome. Lots of interesting back story’s about Bob Dylan’s life.
Joan Baez was a love interest. Acting and music were exceptionally good. Highly recommend on a cold day in the Burgh.
2:15 minutes long. He was a creative genius.
I was never a big Dylan fan, but my bride and I are now…..

OT: Juror#2.....

I've been waiting months to see this movie after reading about it this summer. For whatever reason Warner Brothers decided to release this in a very limited fashion (I think 50 theaters total). It's now streaming on MAX and PPV.

Speculation this is Clint Eastwood's last directorial feature. He is 94 now. I saw some bits from the filming and although he looks ok, you can tell his frame is breaking down. I'll admit to being a fan of most of his movies, but moreso that he (very) successfully jumped from acting to directing. He is extremely prolific and often completes his films rapidly. Insane how many films he has directed in the second (third?) half of his life.

Juror #2 - I loved the movie but will admit that the ending gave me pause. I won't say more to spoil, but I could have seen it ending sooner. Besides that terrific performances abound and Hoult IMHO deserves a Best Actor nod in a very complex, complicated role that did not rely on action or production but just facial expression. Extremely subtle.

I'll be curious to hear what anyone else thinks.
