    More so than any of those guys (except maybe Simms), David Beatty was another guy who they badly wanted. That was really their first "this staff loves this player and wants to lock him up ASAP" only to see him immediately get a flood of new offers and turn his attention elsewhere.

    As always, the biggest benefit of a large payroll is being able to spend your way out of your mistakes and increase your margin of error.
