For Pitt as an elite program. Will history repeat itself? Could the wheels fall off the Nitter program going forward? Let’s hope so.

There are big differences between the schools.
Enabler u is a football first anchor willing to spend crazy amounts of students tuition towards the football program. I do hope Enabler u hits the skids for a long time though.

I'm enjoying the nit meltdown immensely but this season really doesn't mean much. Pretty much a big mulligan. I'm sure they'll be back to their guaranteed 9 win seasons in short order.

How much tuition money is PSU spending on football?

They haven’t won since 1986. They have a ceiling. Franklins gotten them there as much as the late great Joe paterno since.

As a Pitt fan I'm glad their was no playoffs in 95 because they could would have been a coin flip game vs Nebraska.

Not sure that they spend tuition money as much as they have alumni obsessed with football who value winning as if their lives depend on it.

This is why they have a strong football history since JoePa and why they can dismiss child rape so easily.

The nits lost today to a winless team playing a RS FR in his first start at QB. Their 0-4 start is not a mirage.

Gonna be interesting to see what happens with them for the rest of the season. Get the impression that Jimmy may not be the best guy to have running a program in a crisis situation.

Penn St goes 0-4 and we get multiple posts referencing Pitt being 0-4 almost 40 years ago.

Even if 84 was our beginning of the end, there was still hope for a return to national prominence under Gottfried based on the substantial pro talent he brought in. The problems of course we're his gameday coaching was average and then his firing and the extra academic standards were a self-employed penalty.

in that the ABC/espn scroll bar pointed this out for 12 straight hours I'm not sure what your beef is in that no one here would have even made that association if that had not been the case...I thought "schitt, I cannot even enjoy Penn State going 0-4 without the world reminding me of a bad Pitt memory every twelve minutes at the bottom of my screen"...

This is the kind they usually win. when the chips are down and no one expects a win. Then they pull off the upset and 6 game winning streak. Sure hope I'm wrong.

You're wrong about a 6 game winning streak because they only have 4 games left in their season; unless you are carrying that streak into next year.

I thought maybe bowl, but I admit I did lose count. But I'm thinking Indiana in 2004, and OSU in 2016....two games that should have been losses that was a start for big things for them.

Wish it were a portend of Nittany doom, but I see this season as a one-off for them. Michigan is beside them in the dumpster so that whole division behind TOSU is a jumble. Now, if they underachieve NEXT year, maybe the natives get restless.... Back in 1984 we watched in disbelief as Pitt turned from Panthers into kittens. The program lost its swagger and killer instinct and developed a glass jaw. It did not have to be that way, but the Cathedral Eggheads were content with Pitt's entry into the Big East and the rise of the basketball program.
