Down 80-78 to Louisville with 39 seconds, Hadley misses a shot, we don't get the rebound. Had we gotten the rebound, maybe we score and win.

Tied at 66 vs Clemson. Dillon Hunter misses a shot with 51 seconds, couldn't get the rebound. Zachary makes a shot with 33 seconds. We tie and send to OT. Had we stopped them, maybe we win.

@ Wake, Lowe misses a 3 to tie with 1:02 left. If he hits it, maybe we end up winning

@ UNC - the Leggett miss at the buzzer

I believe we've only won 1 close game this year....at OSU. To go 0-4 in those 1 possession games is a hard thing to do.

Right - I mean, this team and Lowe are a *lot* better than many posters are giving credit.

Did we lay a rotten egg against UVA (in both FB and BB btw) - yeah but we'd currently be in the NCAAT now if we just won 2 of those 4 one possesion games.

I "think' our guys lost a lot of confidence losing those close games and that's why Saturday's game is of the upmost importance for a lot of reasons.

I think we win - get on a roll - *maybe* lose at Louisville but win the remaining regular season games and do what we need to do in the ACCT to get into the Big Dance.

We’ve won several other “close” games, just not ones where the result could have been flipped on one play.

It been a weird year. I think about those game that could have dramatically improved our resume. On the other hand, we probably would have been overseeded at 5 due to our propensity to get waxed in some games.

Ya. It's a bad time to be a Capel defender. But judging by the crowd the other night and this board people have given up on him and this team.

Devil's Advocate: I think Ohio State and Clemson both got complacent to have let us back into those games. Virginia Tech could have easily been a loss, as well, and had we played them and WVU a few weeks later both probably would have been (you can say the opposite about UVA, but that's still 2 to 1).

As for what did happen in these one-possession games we're 1-4 in, Louisville is the one that I thought stung the most. I very much believe we should have won that game. But the fact that we couldn't go into Wake or UNC and just ball out when we absolutely needed to tells me this team has a very defined ceiling. We don't win Q1 games.

It is pretty simple for me, good teams find a way to win close games, bad teams find a way to lose. Our offensive sets this year at the end of games are ridiculously bad and we don't give ourselves much chance to win. Not to mention lack of focus, rebounding, defense. But the two years prior, we had a formula for winning those close games.

Well hopefully we get regression to mean and win a close one next week at Lville. Win the next five and they end 6-6 road, and get another Q1A and 2 Q2 wins. Puts them in last four/first four out discussion. This team is capable of doing that. Will they, probably not.

While those games did come down to one play, the reason we don't win those games is a cumulative affect of poor rebounding and particularly poor 3pt defense. These weaknesses are hard to overcome and are the reason we can't win a Quad 1 battle.

Don't forget the Wisky game where Dunn got hurt and they got all of these ridiculous foul calls on that one dude.

I get the point here about there being a number of close games that haven’t gone our way. But this team’s analytic profile has tanked since New Year’s or so, and that isn’t really going to be drastically altered whether we won those one possession games or lost them.

We were #27 in Torvik prior to the Cal game right around New Year’s. #41 headed into the Clemson game. We are now #73. It’s been a legitimate and steep drop off whether those late game shots went down or not.

This team is a true bubble team in terms of being a good team and in making the tournament. Pull out a few of those close winnable games and you have a tournament team . The outcry of firing the coach and the belittlement of the players is disgraceful. Pitt isn’t Duke , never was and will never be and those expecting those kind of results are unrealistic.

Don't tell SMF, but we are actually 1-3 in one possession games. However if for some odd reason you want to include a four point game as a one possession game so that you can include the Louisville loss, then you also have to include the four point win at Syracuse, so we wouldn't be 1-4, we'd be 2-4. Unless for some odd reason you want to included five point games, in which case we are 3-4.

I wouldn't mind him. He's the board simpleton. He was kicked in the noggin by a goat in '07.

If critiquing the effort, abilities, execution and outcome of D1 athletes making annual salaries and benefits that are double the national income average in the US and/or in the case of their coach 50+ times that is not fair game then too f'n bad for me and them.

And yes, I was a good athlete as I'd guess many here that remain very interested in sports remain connected to sport for their entertainment, not me in football and basketball but wrestling and later competing in duathlon and state ranked a couple years but so what, that means nothing as to whether these kids and coaches are fair game, they are.

I'm not seeing many overboard and frankly think you are off base in your thoughts in feeling sorry for anyone related to posts here. There's far more evil in the world you should really never find out about as it would destroy your psyche.

Best wishes to you anyway, hope you have better days ahead.

I’m sure people questioned all your lost matches in social media . Saying that you’re worthless and have no business competing at this level and hope you transfer out .

These are kids working their butts off and losing affects them way more than any of us . Being disappointed in how this season has turned out is fine , but forgetting that these are just kids trying their best seems lost on a few people here .

The fact that college athletes now get to share in the billions of dollars they help generate doesn’t take away from the fact a lot of them aren’t even 20 yrs old .

If people want a top ten team then Pitt needs better players and better players mean more money . When they lose now people can bitch that’s these overpaid guys stink !

Enjoy the game that’s all it is and be happy that these kids are being compensated for all their hard work .

I'd say you're over estimating anyone's impact here

the kids are welcome to the money, Capel is too

nobody needs to be satisfied with this outcome and I am sure none of them are going to turn it down next year so they won't have to face the chance of backlash for their shortcomings

as for me, no way do I know but I think the added scrutiny of the public in addition to a coach that pushed me(not sure Capel does) and also was very good at his job frankly would have made me far better and more successful rather than beaten me down or making me pout or play selfish rather than do what was best for the team to win

not a brag but maybe ask my 2 kids that were state champions while NOT being the best athletes on their teams but were the best players and leaders both on and off the field, in season and off season

their teammates and their coaches were profuse with feedback about how they went about things really from freshman year each

Maybe 4 players and 1 head coach away from 20 - 6,
IF 4 top 50 talent they might overcome their current coach

if new head coach then just need equal talent to LAST year(2023/2024) and no doubt(90% likelihood) they make the tournament.....the fact that JC f'd that team up is criminal although I admit he got them easily in considering where they were at year's end but unfortunately screwed it up early......but then again I WISH we could have experienced last year's team under a good or great coach and very likely they have a legit shot at FF

with reference to this year's team, need different #5 with SOME ability to defend and a coach that understands that and they get it......let's face it, they were rolling and should've still gotten in this year if things were done differently and he adapted after the MSST mauling and the FSU early disaster
