With no 7 win teams we REALLY nees Clemson to win out to give us a locked in Tier One Bowl. If Clemson wins, I predict...

Clemson to CFP
FSU to Orange
VA tech to TaxSlayer
UNC to Belk (Charlotte)
Miami to Pinstripe
Lville to Russel Athletic
Pitt to Sun

There is no "lock" because there is no 1 win rule anymore. NC State can get a Tier 1 bowl at 6-6.

Plus, you forgot the Citrus Bowl.

Pitt is an attractive bowl team this year, it brings with it as an exciting offensive team in the country and a defense that makes the opposing team an exciting offense also !

Bowl selection committees dont care abiut that. They care about attendance.

Pitt doesn't have a good travelling fanbase. We will be bottom of the barrel until that consistently changes.

Actually, they care about ratings more.

And attendance wise, Pitt travels better than Wake, BC, and GT among ACC bowl teams.

The networks care about ratings. The bowls get gate money.

So you don't think that bowls care about ratings? Really?

Just out of curiosity, when the Poulan Weed Eater Bowl is negotiating their next television contract do you think that the ratings that their games have gotten over the years won't matter at all?

Sun Bowl gets a lot of local attendance and isn't as reliant on travelling fans. It would be a decently epic road trip that I would definitely make.

And for that matter, when the bowl organizers are negotiating with Poulan to re-up their bowl sponsorship do you not think that good ratings for the games will potentially mean more money from sponsors?

False.

The Tier One games have to go to 8-4 teams before any non 8-4 team could be considered.

False. The 1 win rule no longer applies.

Raycom put out a PDF which explains this. Google "ACC Football tiebreaker 2016." Its the 7th link down.

It is very clearly explained.

Joe,

Ticket sales are far and away the most.important consideration. TV ratings are very hard to predict, especially when dealing with programs who have very similar "program profiles" so to speak. I'm sure, yea, if a Pitt bowl game would blow away an NC State bowl game in terms of ratings, they'd take Pitt and fewer fans but how many ratings points are worth fewer tickets sold?

There is no guarantee that more people would even watch a Pitt bowl game over GT and NCSU, lets not kid ourselves. The bowl is always going to take the team that sells more tickets.

Neither GT nor NCSU would sell appreciably more tickets than Pitt.

But a Top 5 offense and one of the best stories of the year (Conner) could be worth a million or two more viewers nationwide.

If they are short sighted, sure they will. Some people actually do have the ability to think longer term though.

Look, I agree that if a bowl thinks they will sell 10,000 tickets to NC State and 1,000 tickets to Pitt then it really is no choice. But if a bowl thinks that they will sell 6,000 tickets to NC State fans and 5,000 tickets to Pitt fans and they take nothing else into consideration other than that then they are idiots. Plain and simple, idiots. The example that you have used on numerous occasions that NC State might sell 300 more tickets to the Sun Bowl than we would so they would obviously be the pick is so ridiculous that it wasn't even worth commenting on. Because no one who runs a bowl and who has even half a brain is making their decision solely on the basis of selling 300 tickets. No one.

When you are perusing the TV listings, would you really prefer a 6-6 team over an 8-4 team who beat two top tens and almost beat another in OK St.? I see most any bowl game involving a 6-6 team and there is no chance of me watching it (unless it is Pitt). I think our travel will be better this year. Yeah, we still probably don't travel well but I don't think we are any worse than Miami or G Tech. Miami gets a boost because they'll probably be within a five hour drive of any bowl they make.

Ticket sales and sponsors also care about ratings/ market advertising. I think that's why Pinstripe went with Duke last year. They had penn st year before.

okay leto be real. Miami ,gt and NC state did not out draw us this year . period

False.

The Tier One games have to go to 8-4 teams before any non 8-4 team could be considered.

Only if there are 4 8-4's to fill them. If not (see last year 2 8-4's, 3 7-5's), 7-5's get in the tier one pool and can be picked first( again see last year 8-4 pitt left out of tier one).

You dont understand that TV ratings are very unpredictable. Can you be sure a Pitt bowl game would out-rate a GT or NCSU or UNC or whoever bowl game? We like to think more people would watch Pitt but our last 5 or 6 bowl ratings have been dreadfully bad (terrible time slots but still). Even the highly anticipated Pitt/PSU game was just a normal noon ABC game ratings-wise, the ratings werent great.

So, I'm saying if you can guarantee yourself an exta couple hundred or couple thousand tickets, you do it. You cant depend on ratings. You take the money on the table.

Yep. We are competing with similar fanbases. Whether team X brings 6000, team Y brings 5500 and Pitt brings 5000, that is not enough to necessarily elevate X or Y over us, especially this year.

Again, no 1 win rule, but the no 6-6 over 8-4 rule for Tier 1.That's why no va tech last year.

There are some qualifiers to get into Tier I. If there are four teams with a record of 8-4 or better, a 6-6 team can’t be picked in the first tier.

we averaged 48,080
gt averaged 47, 502
Miami a FLUFFED HUGELY FLUFFED 58,080 not chance it was even 2/3 of that
NC state did at 57k.
so I stand corrected

the pitt numbers were accurate as that included 33k for today. Miami is counting tickets they dropped from a plane in a third world country

A 6-6 team can’t be chosen over an 8-4 team for a Tier I spot, so N.C. State is locked out of one of the Tier I games by wins by Pittsburgh, Miami and Georgia Tech on Saturday.

Tiger,

Those are the old rules though. The writers are citing old information. The ACC got rid of the one win rule. Unless the 1 win rule doesn't apply to 6-6 teams??? I wished the ACC would "come clean" with this stuff.

The one win rule is gone... but not the 6-6 going to tier one over 8-4.

There are enough 8-4 teams to fill the tier one slots, so the 6-6 teams are locked into tier 2.

It certainly seems that I understand television ratings a hell of a lot more than you do. You think that television ratings are essentially completely ignored. The fact that you think that says a lot, and not at all what you think it does.

If you think that a bowl is going to pick one team over another over a couple hundred extra ticket sales with no other considerations involved then you are nuts.

You're in charge of a bowl game:

You are virtually assured NC State sells a few hundred (or few thousand) more tickets.

What makes you so certain you will make that money back based on a higher TV rating Pitt will provide? How do you know this?

I would know things based on a hell of a lot more information and research than your mindless postings on an internet message board. I will guarantee you that someone on every bowl committee is looking at television ratings of every team that they might get to play. I will guarantee you that bowls crave higher television ratings, because higher television ratings translates into higher television dollars and more money from bowl sponsors. The fact that you think that the bowls ignore all sorts of possible ways for them to make money doesn't mean that the bowls ignore all that stuff, it means that you don't know what you are talking about.

Went to Pitt /Miami game 35k at most . Miami was only team that truly was the better team in their 4 losses .
