Two of the games will be played in the pre-season; one will be the first game. The odd man out 15th team will play an unspecified 'big OOC game' as a kickoff.

Why? They need the content for the ACC Network that will be launching.

The big downside, as I see it, is that most teams will no longer schedule the ~2 big OOC games they typically play before Xmas. Coaches need their wins.
This will hurt come tournament time. Teams will be unfamiliar with the playing style of schools from other conferences, until they face them in the tournament, and for some, the unfamiliarity will result in early exits.

You are over thinking this. More games in the best conference isn't going to change the outcomes come tournament time.

Plus it's not like all the teams in the ACC play the same style. Think about how different Virginia plays from North Carolina. Or how different Syracuse plays from Louisville. And so on

The ACC has teams that play fast and teams that play slow. Teams that play tough man to man and others that play zone. Teams that play physical full court defense and teams that play far more passive. Teams that love to shoot threes and teams that comparatively speaking hardly shoot them at all. Playing unfamiliar styles isn't really a problem now, and it won't be in the future.
