Lunardi was just interviewed on the radio here and said Pitt won't be in most likely because of their bad finish and getting blown out now by UNC. WTF!!!

I'm in LA and listening to ESPN Radio. He said Pitt will be in 1st 4 out now after the game ends.

Just posted this in the game thread as well.

He said Jamie gambled with the "RPI" game and lost. Said committee looks at how a team finishes and top teams they have beaten and Pitt failed. He gave Pitt a 20% chance of making the dance and could fall. Also blasted Dixon's OOC schedule and said it is a national laughingstock and all the committee members know it.

He was harsh.

Lunardi is full of crap.

Literally NO other bracketologists are saying that.

So Lunardi's blowout threshold was 20. We didn't lose by 20. Again, no consistency at all from him.

There is no chance Pitt misses the tournament. That is literally the stupidest thing he's ever said. For Syracuse to even be mentioned as a team that needs to even bother watching Selection Sunday, Pitt would have to be easily in.

My fear is that all the committee members will be hearing that loudmouth blast Pitt all weekend and maybe it'll influence them.

What is up with that guy?

He is right about the OOC schedule and Jamie thinking he is fooling people with a trumped up RPI without challenging ourselves out of conference. I am wondering if the committee will take that into consideration.

Lunardi... being a St. Joe's and Villanova guy..... has a huge bias against Pitt, Syracuse, etc.

There's no way in hell that Monmouth, St. Bonaventure, and St. Mary's are ahead of Pitt. None.

Scott Barnes won't let that happen. I have faith he'll work some behind the scenes magic to score us a bid.

Again, if the committee wants to punish people who game the RPI system, maybe they should stop using a ranking system that can be gamed so easily?

Yeah but as recruits said, what about our bad OOC schedule?

Nonsense.

The committee doesn't look at OOC and In-conference as separate things. They look at the whole 30+ game entity as *ONE* thing. Multiple interviews with committee members have confirmed this.

Pitt's resume contains their 31 Division 1 games... They aren't separated by OOC and in. Pitt's 31-game schedule included 16 games against the Top 100, and Pitt went 8-8 in those games.

St. Mary's, Monmouth, St. Bonaventure, Wichita State, etc.... *NONE* of them come close to that.

Again... If Syracuse is even in the conversation, then Pitt is in.

Yeah but as recruits said, what about our bad OOC schedule?

St. Mary's best OOC win was UC Irvine.

Pitt's going to get in. On most people's brackets who know what they are doing, we are a 9 seed. I don't even think we'll fall to Dayton.

Who cares? Our overall schedule ranking is in the 30's. RPI and everything else is well above what a bubble team is usually sitting at. It is clear as day Pitt deserves to be in, yet some loudmouth idiots wanna say Syracuse or some teams from lousy mid-major conferences deserve it more. Seriously what the hell are these guys smoking?

Lunardi's emphasis on OOC is not relevant.

The *ENTIRE* schedule is looked at, as a whole. 7 of Pitt's 11 losses are against the Top 15. Pitt is 8-1 against teams between 15th and 100th.

I don't see why they should place so much emphasis on the OOC if we have a tough overall SOC. Should a mid-major team get a boost because they schedule 4 tough out of conferences games but play an entire conference full of cupcakes?

The ACC alone will get Pitt in and most likely Syracuse or Va Tech. John Swofford is sure as hell is not going to lose a bid to Monmouth.

Pitt is in... but not because of what you said.

Swofford has no role at all.

Are you sure? because Lunardi was just on ESPN and he said that Pitt is probably in the field and there's a SLIGHT chance they end up in Dayton.

Well regardless of Lunardi being a major tool, he has been pretty accurate in predicting the number of teams in the tournament every year.

My major worry is the committee having to listen to him over and over on every ESPN network bash Pitt. It shouldn't but it might influence the committee.

Really??? Lol does he even know what he says? We BEAT a team yesterday and he moves us to last 4 in. Then he says on the radio earlier we are probably not going to be in, now he says some other crap.

This guy needs some sleep.

Used to think he was a smart guy, he was usually very close to spot on with his brackets yearly. But he is quickly turning into Mel Kiper, Jr. the way he is now blabbling on.

I don't understand why everyone here agrees that's our OOC schedule stinks. But if anyone in the media says it, they are biased against Pitt or full of Sh!t.

I think Barnes knows the OOC needs to improve, and if he didn't before, he surely knows now after sitting on the committee. But if by chance he doesn't, a snub by the NCAA will hopefully teach Jamie a valuable lesson.

At worst, we may slip to Dayton.
Which is a fair statement. Remember, either UConn or Cincy loses tommorow, that team will be CLEARLY below Pitt. If Tulsa loses before the finals to Temple, they will be below Pitt. These are teams that Lunardi might have ahead of us, but should drop below us.

Yeah but why did he

1)move us to last 4 in AFTER we beat Syracuse when he had us as a solid 10 seed prior??

2)go on southern cal espn radio and say Pitt won't be in most likely now because of this and that

3)Go on espn tv and say maybe Dayton

I mean, the guy is losing all credibility - he keeps changing his narrative depending on the audience and it's ridiculous.

Because he's not a good bracketologist.

The point is, the Gonzaga fiasco screwed us beyond belief. Add that game in, and we're talking about a very solid OOC schedule. There's really not many teams that play tough OOC schedules, and we certainly played a more than tough conference schedule.

I just watched Lunardi live between games. He said the loss today shouldn't affect Pitt much. He said they are solidly in the field with an outside chance they have to play in Dayton.

So I guess we heard two different Lunardi's, unless you heard only what you were hoping to hear.

Anyone else hear Lunardi between games???

Maybe Joe Lunardi is suffering from split personalities?

Yeah this statement you just quoted I think is very accurate. Every thing he said before, I don't know where that even came from. We're in pretty easily, we're basically only going to Dayton if that's the way the bracket plays out. If everything falls into place easily though, we're looking at a 8, 9, or 1 seed without even having to play in the first four.

Lunardi is a showman, not a particularly good bracketologist. He says different things in the radio and on TV so he can point to more things he said correctly. His final bracket will have Pitt in, as they will be in, and he knows that sites like bracket matrix have pulled back the curtains on his supposed expertise. He talks of getting 64 or 65 right. But when it comes down to it, only about 6 schools are competing for the last 3 spots, so all you need is to get half of those right to look good.

Maybe Joe Lunardi is suffering from split personalities?
He doesn't even know what he is saying or doing half the time. He moved us to last 4 in after we had to"beat Syracuse" according to him to be safely in. Last time I checked, last 4 in isn't being safely in.

He is hallucinating.

Why would he move us to last 4 in after we beat Cuse?? We were a 10 seed prior to the game. He is lost.
