Any Dixon defenders left?

I like the man, but we are just spinning our wheels. His seat will be on fire next year, if we don't make the NCAA this year

I don't know how I feel anymore. IMO this team has talent, they are just the laziest, uninterested players I've ever seen in sports. They look almost like they want to lose. It's just baffling the stupid things they do.

So which one of you is going to step up and donate for the buyout.
The buyout? He's not turning back a penny of that contract he has. That's a lot of money for Pitt to eat. He will be here for a while like it or not.

I don't think there is any way Dixon should be fired until he muses the tourney this year and next year.

The chances pitt gets a better coach than Jamie is slim, and without a local recruiting base, pitt is unlikely to ever become the type of program with the Ty ex of coach most on here want.

Agree. IMO it would be near insanity to fire Dixon. But miss the tourney this year, and the seat should be very, very, very hot. Miss it again next year, and that would show they hung on to him a year too long. If he misses two straight tourneys, he's gone in a flash.

And how do you know this? A new coach can't possibly do any worse.

The fact that Pedersen and that JA Nerdy extended this coach's contract when his program was in a clear state of decline is enough to make me spit! Pitt's boxed into a corner.
Good news is with his top 75-80 recruiting classes and great young core of Luther, cam Johnson, and rozelle nix we will be back on top in no time.
Good, young core- not a one one of those guys is anything but a fringe player. The roster is completely flawed.

It was moronic to extend him 10 years because it looked like we were treading water at that point. 5 years I could see.

Can you explain? In the ACC alone, you think that pitt couldn't do worse? You think that Pitt right now is in a worse state than FSU, wake, Clemson, vt, nc state, or gt? Or maybe we could be like cuse or Louisville and constantly be on probation?

The idea that pitt could not do any worse is one of the dumbest, most myopic things I see on here. It could get MUCH worse.

Local recruiting base?

You realize that means nothing.......don't ya?

Pitt has the whole state of Pa to recruit from. There is plenty of talent in our recruiting circle to compete for championships.

It's only a matter of time at this point. I think everyone can see that.

We'll have to ride out the contract extension that was given by Smiley and Nordy over the next couple of seasons, likely with the program's decline getting more pronounced along the way.

That Pitt has to go up against nova, Maryland, gtown, uconn, Syracuse, etc to get. When you look at local recruiting base, you can't possibly count philly, dc, or ny. Those schools have a built in advantage that Pitt doesn't, and never will.

The current coach Dixon is very replaceable and frankly Pitt could probably can get similar results with a cheaper coach.
The old coach Dixon is someone Pitt would have an impossible time replacing.

So when will the buyout be affordable for Pitt to make the change? 2018? Without that buyout I think he'd be gone next season if these performances continue.

Meanwhile down in M morgantown Bob Huggins has no recruiting base and he finds players from all over the country. He's killing it right now.

You forgot about the 5th year grad transfers he will add in the spring that will contribute nothing.

That is a fair point. I hold out hope that Dixon can go back to his roots and turn it around.

Does West Virginia have a built in advantage?

How about Wisconsin?

Or what about Iowa st, or Iowa. You think they have a ton of players living by their campus? Or Oklahoma?
Virginia has more talent than Pa when it comes to basketball?

What is the difference between the teams from the glory days and now? The quickest and easiest change comes from the coaching staff and S&C program. Get someone in charge of the S&C program that will toughen these guys mentally and physically.

Look, I have been saying this for a few years. Under Howland and then Dixon, Pitt always seemed to have a fairly strong staff, with head coaching candidates. I am not talking just slick talking hucksters who recruit, but guys who can actually coach up and develop players. We haven't had any assistant coaches even SMELL a head coaching job lately, and you have to question their overall worth.

I know my Bill Barton schtik has rubbed some wrong (and I don't care because I am being proven right) but really, how much more can you defend the guy and think; "gee maybe somewhere there is a better assistant coach?". Or some others have pointed to Brandon, and they have a legit point. What really has he done?

Obviously Jamie with his contract is immovable right now. But his assistants aren't nor should they be. I think these guys need to hear some different voices.

But he isn't getting huge signings. Some four star guys and mostly 3 star guys. He seems to be doing the same thing Dixon used to do.

We were a perennial top 10 team and twice BET champs, many Big East reg champs and twice a #1 seed from 2002-2010. It ain't lack of local talent holding us back.

Maybe.

Look, I don't have the answer...I just don't think the answer is to simply fire Dixon.

Look at Huggins staff. Ron Everhart. Billy Hahn. Larry Harrison. All have been head coaches. And Huggs has 3 times the experience that Jamie has. I said it 2 years ago, I said it last year, everyone blames Jamie and he definitely deserves a lot of the blame, but his assistant coaches suck.
