Anyone want to adopt a Premier League Club?

I think this will be the year Burnley go down. They have seriously flirted with relegation the past 3 or 4 years only to pull a rabbit out of their hat the past month and safely stay up. I think their luck runs out today and the Fighting Jesse Marsch's stay up.
I don’t think so. I’d be shocked. Leeds needs a result at minimum and then would have to hope Burnley doesn’t get a result too. Basically Leeds needs a better result than Burnley, right? And this Leeds team is absolutely depleted right now. Their recruiting was awful to begin with and now they have no one with any goal scoring ability healthy. If Marsch keeps this team up, they should build a freaking statue.

I think it’s Rodney Marsh on XM who always says that goalkeeping will win you or cost you 10 points per season. And I think he’s right. Burnley frankly has no business staying up, but they have Nick Pope in goal. Leeds has that young kid who often looks like he’s seen a ghost.

I think Leeds will earn 1 point at Brentford and Burnley will falter to Newcastle. Once that happens, I want to see Fulham make a move for Nicky Pope.

Leeds will definitely have to address their GK situation next year. Meslier was decent last year but really has regressed.

I think Leeds move on from Marsch next season. Not saying I'd agree with it, but I think they do. They are a traditional big England club with big dreams and ambitions.

Kepa to Fulham!!! Lol

And there we have it. The fighting Jesse Marsch's go into Brentford Community stadium and take all 3 points whilst Burnley's annual flirtation with relegation has resulted in a fulltime date with the Championship.

Congrats to Jesse Marsch and keeping United up

It probably wouldn't have mattered, but the guy who scored for Brentford to tie the game up in the 78th got a yellow card for taking off his shirt in the celebration. Two minutes later he got a second yellow for a bad foul. From that point on Leeds out shot Brentford 7-1 in a game that up until that point Brentford was outshooting Leeds 13-7, and Leeds got the second goal right at the death to clinch survival.

I had zero interest in the Burnley-Leeds fight other than Jesse Marsch. He went 4-3-5 in his short time as Leeds manager. I think that is respectable with the injury decimation Leeds had.

It was bonkers. They were completely out of the game, and then five minutes later everything was completely different.
I can't wait to watch goal zone on USA. I didn't watch the Liverpool or ManCity match. I was glued to the Burnley-Newcastle match. The relegation battles are far more fascinating. Turf Moor was a graveyard up until Maxwell Cornet scored to bring the Claret's within 1 and by then the fan energy was a little to late

Obviously I was watching City. I got a kick out of it when after City scored the first goal the announcers are saying that now "City is back in the title hunt". And I'm thinking well wait a second, "back in the title hunt?" If the game ended the way they were at that point, City would have been the champions.

Now I get that you couldn't assume that it was going to stay that way, and indeed it did not, but how on earth were they ever "out of the hunt" when there was actually no point at all during the course of the day that City was not in first place in the live table?

So I had two large flat screens going. One was the City match and the other was the Liverpool match. I had my Chelsea on my phone so I really couldn’t surf social media.

I also had significant interest in the Burnley and Leeds matches and figured City and Liverpool would seal their matches early and then in could switch to the relegation battles. I was finally able to switch to Leeds when City went up 3-2. I know I was pissed at Leeds last week, but I was happy for Marsch today. Rumors will now start circulating that Aaronson and Adams will be on their way to Leeds.

I bet a 9 game parley and I won 8 of them. The only one I lost was I bet Chelsea to score 4 goals over the awful Watford side. Of course they let me down. If they had scored I’d have won $2K on a $10 bet. I also bet all the same matches individually so I made a little money.
Nothing like Championship Sunday.

I wanted City to win. And my reason is that we can all live with it because that’s what they are supposed to do.

seriously, what kind of an epic fail would it have been if a club that’s literally owned by a state goes through a season and doesn’t win one trophy ? If that had happened Pep should have literally just walked away from the sport in shame.

glad they won. I almost jumped out of my seat. I didn’t of course, but I was close.

I'm not sure Adams should go. I guess depending on the formation used but Leeds have Kalvin Phillips as their CDM. Now Aaronson is more realistic to add some attacking flare. It was very fun to see Marsch in the corner with the Leeds fans and then in the lockerroom with the boys.

Burnley 100% fully deserved to be relegated. You get rid of Sean Dyche, who has led that team year after year out of the relegation zone, 2 months before the end of the season....this is what you get and deserve.

I missed that. I grew impatient with NBC cutting away to the Ethidad so I turned it off. Any links?

Yeah but…wasn’t Leeds appearing to be safe and the Dyche’s replacement at Burnley had them win a couple matches and crawl out of the relegation zone?

@USN_Panther sorry man. I know that had to be a rough result today. Hope they can rise again. Clubs like Norwich and Watford need to go away and stop the yo-yo up and down trend. Maybe Burnley can get back again next year.

I gotta say this too because it’s profound to me. Jesse only lost 4 of his 9 matches at Leeds. For a team in the relegation zone, that’s unbelievable. And of the 4 losses, 3 were to Chelsea, Man City and Arsenal. Not bad at all…

I can't find one of him in the lockerroom and all the boys having beers in their hands or in the corner postgame, that was a blurb I saw on the NBC post game. This one does show his pure emotion after Jackie Harrison scored #2

Fulham also. We are getting that reputation. Next season is huge in terms of club stability and development.

Just listening to the 2 Robbie's, it could be very difficult for Burnley to come back up. Alot of their starting 11 are eligible to leave on free transfers this summer. Then they mentioned something about their financial troubles and that a loan they received is a front loaded loan in which next season they have to pay a hefty chunk of it back almost immediately. That will leave hardly any money for quality players to grind in the Championship. Both said The Athletic had a very detailed article on the financial situation of the club.

I'm not sure if they'd be allowed to use the parachute payment for this.

I fear we could see Burnley do a Sunderland and have back 2 back relegations after bowing out of the EPL. That would be pretty crushing, I don't know alot but I think Burnley is one of those gritty English towns that is a depressed type of area.

MLS saves Leeds!
Kinda...Jack Harrison was technically Man City property. I look at all of these clubs in the City Financial Group as ManCity property. I could be totally wrong though.

I'm definitely not an EPL scout and there are very very few people worth these sums. Man City got gouged by Aston Villa when they bought Jackie Grealish for $100 million the other year. He's a nice little player but nothing more than a very poor man's version of Neymar. Petulant, always falling down, claiming he gets mugged everytime he gets touched. He is a little douchebag in all reality
Oh, his middle name in my house is fu&$ing.

Not a good result. Burnley will lose a lot of players due to relegation contract clauses. And relegation affects a loan repayment too. They joined Leeds in a complaint over Everton's finances, so maybe some relief there but unlikely.
I couldn't watch the match as it started at 3 AM Monday morning, and I had a big surgery day scheduled. But our hospital is overfull with Covid so it looks like my cases are getting cancelled anyway.
Add to that my ice hockey shootout loss last night, it is a frustrating start to the week.

It's insane about Everton, I think it was either roughtly $400 million or $600 million they've spent on players in the past 4 or 5 seasons. How they can sustain any type of profits or not fall into penalty with FFP is a mystery. They must have some guys who really know how to work or cook the books.

Well the complaint that Leeds and Burnley filed was that they can't. Supposedly the EPL's rules state that they aren't allowed to lost more than £105 million over three years and in reality they have lost well over £300 million. Now the League has said that losses due to covid don't count, but what Leeds and Burnley are arguing is that even with a covid mulligan they still lost way more than that £105 million, and the rules say that if they do that they are supposed to be penalized. The complaint of Leeds and Burnley is basically to force the EPL to enforce it's own rule.

It seems unlikely to me that it's going to work, but if you were the other two why not give it a shot? Nothing to lose, right?

The FA, no different than the NCAA? Will they enforce the rules on the books against what would be considered to be a blue blood. Everton have been in the top division for 68 straight seasons. Whilst not the success of the top 6, they are kinda royalty because of that streak.

Reports are Leeds will keep Jesse Marsch next season. Very excited to see what he can do with them. Hope it all goes well except 2 times next seasons against my Whites.

Might have been naivety or coach speak, but Marsch said all along that Leeds had a plan based on their coaching metrics. And the plan had Jesse feeling secure for 3 years. Things obviously can change when you’re relegated, but Leeds and Jesse had to assume that was a realistic possibility when he was hired.

nonetheless, it will be interesting to see how their squad gets cherry picked by the bigger fish. But I will like to see how Bamford and Aaronson perform together. Maybe they can get Pulisic on loan. Lol.

Ok, I admit, I notice a woman’s upstairs from a mile away, and so did the cameraman. See if you spy something quite nice at the 1:20-1:23 mark.

If you remember, Leeds tried to buy him in the January window and made a couple offers for him but Salzburg wouldn't sell because they were playing Bayern in the Champions League knockouts and they thought they had a better chance with Aaronson still on the team.
Marsch have a great interview to The Football show on XM at 7pm this AM. He laughed off the Aaronson rumor. With what he was saying about the English media, maybe he will advise the club to not sign Aaronson because he knows how Americans are treated there. Lol.

Man it’s a mess. I was listening to an English show and they were talking favorably about the fans and the club, but didn’t have nice things to say about the owners. Apparently it’s been bad decision after bad decision and instead of selling guys who weren’t going to re-sign, they kept them and then they leave on a free. It’s a shame. They may drop another level before they come up again.

listening to it made me think they are footballs Pittsburgh pirates. From the standpoint of it being depressing, that’s what they have in common with the pirates. But if they were owned by Bob Nutting, he’d sell the best players and pocket the money before they had a chance to leave on a free transfer.
