Programs at roughly the same level as ours

Ole Miss, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Michigan State, Missouri, NC State, Minnesota, Iowa to name a few.

In a year when win-loss record means nothing in getting a bowl, how many of these schools will opt out?

I predict none.

Opting out by Pitt should leave no doubt of how serious ( or not ) Pitt is in being a big time football program. This is NOT the move of a school that takes football seriously and its bullshit.

The bowl game Pitt would play in would be just after Christmas, allowing the kids a week to 10 days to go home. That is such a lame excuse.

A decision like this suggests Pitt is quite happy where they are. Sure, they give lip service to " being better", but as I said, it's all bullshit.

They might as well keep Narduzzi as long as he wants to stay here......keep pumping out 6-7 win seasons and be happy with the same mediocrity we have seen for 35 effing years.

I’d agree that opting out probably does speak to how much football matters within the region. There’s a reason why back in April I was saying, “I don’t know much about the rest of the country, but the south is going to play football this fall.” Ole Miss probably would never opt out of a bowl because that state just wouldn’t have it.

But I don’t think it speaks to the program itself. Like it doesn’t say anything about Narduzzi and KP compared to Kiffin and Corrall.

I think sometimes wins and losses can be overstated when it comes to the quality of the people running the program. I normally would not make excuses regarding hardships that college football players face but they should be commended for their discipline of following the team rules.

100% disagree with you. They didn’t opt out after a normal regular season because they didn’t feel like playing. This was Covid driven. The seniors are moving on to begin prepping for the draft. The longer it goes on for them there is a risk to get Covid. That’s why so many were opting out. This would be a shell of the Pitt team that played during the season.

I don’t know if you saw what happened to the Florida basketball player who collapsed during the game today. He tested positive for Covid a little while ago. I don’t blame the seniors for moving on to begin their prep for the NFL. I also don’t blame the other players for calling it this year.

And watch the trolls continue to visit here and gush over st penn and wvcc going to bowls. Pitt absolutely made the right choice. One year isn't going to make or break a program. A pandemic only comes around every 100+ years. H2P!
I have a great deal of respect for what Pitt did this year. Other schools with more money and more isolation did not accomplish what Pitt did this year.

I could care less what they do. Pitt absolutely made the right decision and this is coming from someone who loves football.

The Pittsburgh media will fan the flames of those 2 in their preparations for both bowls. Smh but if Pitt was 3-5 we wouldn't hear the end of it.

Football doesn't matter that much at Pitt.

Anyone else care to admit this?

Or is it more of....."pitt made the right decision ", and "I have so much respect for the players"

We dont take this sport as serious as many of our peers. It's that simple, and it would be refreshing if more of you sheeple would admit it.

Take seriously? What does that even mean? They played 11 games should we be taking it seriously like FSU? PSU? It is a game a sport.

Pitt made the right decision. As much as I wish pitt was playing another game for my viewing pleasure I 100 percent get it. I’m not far removed from the age of these guys and I’m sure they are itching to get out and about. They’ve all made a lot of sacrifices to get 11 games played this season.

It feels really good to see the University respect the players wishes of not playing another game and during a time of player empowerment could pay dividends in the future.

I agree football doesn't matter to Pitt's administration (or at least as much as it should). But not playing a bowl game has nothing to with that. The players voted, respect that.

Lower tier bowl games are meaningless in most seasons. This year, they are even less meaningless of thats possible. If the kids have essentially been in Lockdown all year it’s understandable they wouldn’t want to play in some crap bowl and be locked down for another month It would be nothing more than another scrimmage

Why would the players want to undergo all of the testing for another 3 weeks to go to a relatively blah location where all they can do is either practice or hang out in their hotel room? I would've absolutely watched if Pitt was playing, but if I'm a player, I'm appreciative we got to play a full season and I'm ready for the offseason to start.

not right...........if we went to a bowl game, the kids would not be able to go home. You can't send them all home and then have them come back right before the game. It would be a mess.

Can you ask him if he is willing to foot the bill on all the COVID tests that would need to be taken?
Also ask him how many bowl games have been canceled up to now?

I disagree, crazy year. They made a big time commitment to the team and university. I have zero problem with them taking a breath, staying healthy, and just trying to focus on school

you wouldn't go to the bowl game anyways if fans were allowed. Probably stay home and post here

Curious how serious do you take it? What is your donation level? How many games do you go to? Any road trips? Bowl games, the ACC championship a few years ago? Posting on a free message board doesn't count as taking it "seriously"

Bucked tooth Nordy and Oil Salesman Stevie put the hammer on the nail that was started back in the late 80s to kill PITT FOOTBALL. The new administration cares very little about football and Heather is clueless. I admit it

While there may be some truth in some of that, I think declining a meaningless bowl game is absolutely the right call here.

Really, what's the point here? 2 or 3 more weeks of quarantine, protocols, then whisking the team away to a location where they really can't enjoy the experience... all for a game that your really don't know if it's going to be played until gameday? Totally not worth it.

Do we even have any invites yet or a bowl schedule? What about bowl game scheduled for Cali? Do they still have the contact sport restriction? I think we'll see a lot of these bowl games just vacate for a year.

Exactly. This decision, BY THE PLAYERS, won’t tarnish the “optics” one iota. What the CFB world has noticed is that our”fans” can’t be bothered to donate, buy tickets, show up at games or travel to bowl games exactly like the one we would’ve gotten.

The college football world looks at Pitt and BC as two "snowflakes" from the Liberal Northeast. It's ok to quit when the rest of the CFB world plays on

Really great optics for Pitt.
And trolling isn't nice around the holidays 🎅🎅 u get a lump of coal for this
