I have mixed feelings on this one as most here probably do. Ultimately, the line play and game day adjustments must improve to say the least. Play calling he has control over, the other he doesn't but probably influences the first.

I have been harder on him than anyone but the O looked adequate when Kenny got back and we ran it much better. I am willing to give Whipple 1 more year with a 5th year senior NFL QB, a future NFL WR in Addison, and an emerging RB

Pitt seems to be doing Asst. contracts 3 yrs now?
Guess Heather was serious about 'stability'.

Its going to be a long year. It goes beyond play calling. There was no rhyme or reason for many of his plays. Nothing built off of the last play. The best example was Canada and his Jet Sweeps. Once he established that he would start hitting counters and fakes etc off that. Whipple never did anything like that. Every play was its own, nothing was built off of anything. I really must say, as bad as Watson was, at least he did this simple concept.

Maybe we should call it the Seinfeld Offense.

Did Whipple change things late in the season? Did we become the Steelers?

Sprea,d it out, Empty a lot, RB as a wideout with late shift back as a sidecar

Maybe spreading it out created more room to run - Thought I saw some trap blocking too

Seemed we used the sneak when called for too.

7 wins is pathetic for Pitt next year, esp with a 35 year old QB , 9 should be the target, and what a joke to keep Whipple, maybe we will be getting rid of all of them after 21.
Are you hoping Pitt wins 8 or more games next year or are you rooting for them to lose, so you will have a reason to call for their firing?

Nothing like standing pat when you have an absolutely horrible offense. Maybe Pitt feared an age discrimination suit if the canned Whipple. 6-6 here we come.

Honestly, I think this may work out best for everyone. Offense gets better with another year in the same system (with the same QB, too) and if it doesn’t, there is no “new coordinator grace period” and we likely move on from everyone after the season.

Definitely sounds like a make-or-break season.

Not directed to me but my answer is "I don't know, because I do not have a crystal ball." I would be happy if we win 8 games next year if we use it to spring board to something even better, where 8 wins is the floor minus true rebuild years.

If we Pitt wins 8 only to max out there and then go back to 6/7 wins then I am rooting for them to lose more than win.

Without a crystal ball I am obviously going to want them to win, even though I want a change in head coach.

What better options do they have to get an OC who can miraculously transform the offense the way Canada did. Canada isn’t coming back. Bill Walsh is long dead. Offensive coordinators aren’t falling out of the sky in Pittsburgh. You can rattle off names, but the likelihood that they want the job without much longevity attached to it is slim. And by longevity I mean Narduzzi is on the hot seat next season. He could easily be canned after next season and all assistants would be unemployed.

These guys are nomads - one year deals or living in a city/place for a year and moving on is a way of life for these guys. So I don't think Narduzzi being on the hot seat would mean squat to these guys. Secondly, as far as OCs that aren't falling out of the sky - how did we find Canada? Who really heard of him prior to coming to Pitt?

Next year is the make or break year for PN from what I've heard. Needs at least 8 wins. Bad year and he's gone.

But wouldn’t you want to be that OC who saved his job?

Pat Narduzzi heard of him. They were longtime friends. If he had another friend like that he probably would have hired him by now.

That’s his job to know - so I suspect he knows a few more...or knows of a few more.
