Back to the 60's...

Good find. That team was the first stirring of the Cuse program. They would still remain in the shadow of the powerful St. Bonaventure program for another 5-6 years before Roy Danforth put them on the road to becoming the program we're familiar with. Building the Dome was really the big move though. If they had stayed in Manley, Boeheim may have eventually left, just as Danforth did.

Good find!!!

They brought up that game on last night’s broadcast and also mentioned Duke being pretty good in that era , and Eastern League being some badass BB.
A foreshadowing of things to come in the BE

The mix of teams was somewhat different back then though. The Bonnies, Dukes, LaSalle, and Holy Cross were still big time programs. Nova was powerful, as were PC, St. John's, and St. Joe's. Pitt was falling into a hole, UConn was small time, and Georgetown was terrible, and had never been much of a factor.

People think Duke was nothing before K, but they were a very solid program, going back to Dick Groat. I'd compare them back then to someone like Oklahoma, who pops up with elite teams from time to time, then falls back to the pack. Coach K took them to the next level.
