1st, it loses TBT to The Pete. Now, it loses the HS football championships to the University of Charleston. These are hard times for the great people of Wheeling, West Virginia.

I really like Wheeling, I've spent a lot of time there, my sister-in-law is from there, my brother got married there, they have that casino/dog track, I spent a lot of time there back in the day. I wonder if the TBT was better off in Wheeling, that would big time event for them.

You follow "minor league" sports more than most. I didn't even know what TBT was.

And on top of that, the last remaining steel mill in Weirton just closed. The Ohio Valley was in disarray when we moved away ten years ago… can’t imagine it today. Very sad.

They still have the Nailers. I prefer those games over the Penguins. Great seats at affordable pricing and if you are familiar with the streets then free parking

Don't they also have some sort of arena football there too?

I think arena football starts in the spring. If anybody wants to watch a great hockey game by a Penguins minor team for an excellent price then this is your place. I think I paid 25 bucks a ticket for great seats that were between the blue lines. Fleury played for Wheeling. You could be seeing the next great Pgh Penguin player

Marc-Andre Fleury? No. He didn't play even one game for Wheeling. He did play for Wilkes-Barre in several seasons. But he never played for Wheeling.

And the number of top prospects who ever play for an ECHL team is exceedingly small. I can't think of one Penguin player that I'd call great who ever played in Wheeling.

No great players but Tomas Vokoun played there before they were affiliated with the Pens and Tom Kuhnhackl played there after being assigned there by the Pens. I usually go to a game there every year and it's a fun time but the odds of seeing a top player are pretty low.

Yeah, there are certainly guys who go through there, an other ECHL cities, who do make the NHL. But the number of them who turn out to be stars in the NHL is exceedingly low.

I would think that goalies are the most likely to play there and eventually end up in the NHL, because if you've got a young goalie and you want to get him a lot of games that might be the way to go. You'd have a veteran dude getting most of the starts in the AHL, in case one of your NHL goalies gets hurt and you need to bring someone up, so you send the young guy to the ECHL so he can play a lot.

That wheeling Weirton Steubenville area is just a hell hole. Not as bad as Johnstown but pretty damn close.
