Baylor making a statement so far

Thankfully you have no say so in who gets in and who doesn’t. A one loss LSU would have far and away the best resume of any 1 loss team, it literally wouldn’t be close.

The whole when you lose thing is really old school and thankfully the people who decide these things have realized it is meaningless.
Of course my thought has little to do with some old school argument of when you lose, we’re not talking about losing in week 2 or 3 vs week 7, 8 or 8. Regular season is over, schools have established their position in the pecking order, LSU would know they’re in with a win in their conference championship game. If they can’t get the W when needed, it’s on them (although they likely will so this debate is meaningless).

And I’m sure your beauty contest outlook would have both UGA and LSU in if UGA wins. What would be so great about a UGA win if it’s against a team that doesn’t care if they win or lose because they’re already in.

This whole idea that an SEC school’s schedule is so much tougher when there are so few decent OOC matchups to base it on is lacking and tiresome. Yet another reason why sane minds will hopefully eventually get to the 8-team playoff so no P5 conference is left out.

Don't hold your breath. If the money actually made sense, it already would have been done.

The money DOES make sense and it will be done within 5 years, guaranteed. Zero chance we don’t have 8-team tournament by 2023-24 or so.

Whats your source? Every article I've seen has said it'd be too diminishing in returns for ESPN to pursue it, even before you get to the opposition you'd probably get from bowl game committees and certain conferences.

I don’t understand why the money wouldn’t make sense, particularly with many of these bowl games becoming less and less significant with the trend of NFL prospect players skipping them.

I figured the biggest drawback to it is making 2 teams play yet one more additional game or add one more additional week to the season when these are students we’re talking about (cough). But if you made 4 of those early insignificant bowl games the 1st round playoff games, they would have to bring in more $ both through attendance and TV $. Only downside of course is that you’d be kicking 8 teams out of the opportunity to participate in the bowl season.

Totally agree about the 8 team playoff, we will see it as soon as the current contract expires.

As far as LSU/Georgia both getting in I don’t think you need to worry about it, I just can’t see Georgia winning that game without a ton of turnovers forced. If somehow they pull it off there’s zero chance LSU wouldn’t get in though. They would have more wins over ranked teams than all the other viable contenders combined in all likelihood.

I’d like to see them go to 16. It’s going to happen eventually because it will generate more revenue It actually would be great for programs like Pitt as it would make it far more likely that they’d be able to get in the playoffs once in a while. Even at 8 teams Pitts chances are not that great unless they win the ACC championship. There is a 16 team playoff at every other level of football

Hopefully when they go to 8 teams the contract isn’t too long.

That's not right. FCS has 24 teams in their playoff. The D2 playoffs have 28 teams. And in D3, where their are no scholarships and it's all about the kids, there are 32 teams that make the playoffs.
