Earlier in the year, we had a discussion on whether fans would rather see (and pay money for) Pitt play bad brand name teams or mid-majors who are actually better. I remember comparing Missouri and St. John's with Morehead State and Kent State.
Pitt has played some pretty good mid-majors but nobody came to the games. With BC coming in, its a perfect little case study using my own Stubhubbing.
Stubhub changed their policy so that sellers cannot price their tickets below $6. That said, I was able to land $6 lower level tickets to all Pitt non-cons besides Purdue, UMES (didnt go), and EWU (didn't go). However, my BC lowers cost me $30 each even though Kent and Morehead and other mid majors we played are much better. The name Boston College is worth something to them.
I am in no way saying that we should schedule bad power conference teams because it hurts your RPI and those teams would require a home-and-home. However as long as you're not playing at 9 o'clock on a weeknight, there is certainly a much better market out there of fans who want to watch Pitt play brand name themes as compared to mid majors.
