Be prepared for a letdown

I was just coming to post this. I've long said Pitt will not do better than Dixon. I hope people are prepared for the reality of Pitt's place in the college hoops landscape.
I sure hope your not going to be as bad as the folks you are talking about. Sure seems you off to a good start.

Why not wait to see who Pitt gets before posting stuff like this

The Pitt fanbase, if this board is any indication, is very delusional about the possibilities of a new coach. We captured lightning in a bottle when we hired Howland and then his top assistant, Dixon. That era is over now. We are what we are. Unless Barnes has something up his sleeve with a big splash hire, I can't expect a good hire.

If people start complaining about losses, I probably will.

Otherwise no, I'll give the new coach time.

Why would you give the new guy time? The cupboard is not bare. I was expecting another NCAA bid year next year. If the new guys is as good or better than Dixon he won't need any time. If he needs time to do that he will be a bad hire, IMO, and start us on a real downward spiral towards B.C. land.

I've been saying this for years. Pitt needs to prove me wrong.

Wow unkind ? You should come to Columbus and listen to OSU football fans ... This was very mild

Has Barnes shown you anything that would make you believe he won't do everything in his power to make a splash? Gallagher and Barnes want to win and we have money. Those two understand the importance of a powerful sports program and what it can do for a University.

They will do everything they can to hire someone that will make a "splash."

I agree....get ready for the letdown. This isn't going to be very pretty. We'll be left with some assistant in a losing program that wants out and says he can be a head coach.

Can you say sub 0.500 seasons?

Oh please. I am not happy about losing Dixon but you saying Pitt will go down to the bottom on a slippery slope is every bit as bad as the Jamie haters saying that the program was going to do that if Dixon stayed.

Barnes will hire a good coach. Hiring one better than Dixon will be the question.

We can only comment on the facts available to us at the moment. If every single media member is saying there is no chance for any of the Millers, you know the guys this board thought would be a shoe-in replacement, then this isn't off to the greatest start.

Now Barnes could have magical powers and bring in a great candidate. But it is a little eye opening to see how the national media portrays this opening as middle of the pack in the ACC.

Because it isn't the new guys fault. If the roster doesn't turn over too much we might be ok though.

Still though, if a couple guys leave, it could be a rough few years.

How are football openings in the "middle of the pack" SEC football schools considered? ACC is hands down the best conference in the country and to think that there would be no interest seems absurd

Because that is what we are, and no amount of delusion fan posting is going to change that.

We're not Duke, we're not Syracuse, we're not Louisville, we're not UNC, to start. Virginia has had more recent success, Notre Dame has a much stronger national profile, and in neither case do you have to deal with pro-town mentality of fans and media.

So that makes what, NC State, Miami, and GT our conference comparables? If that's not "middle of the pack", I don't know what is.
