Ever get sick of it when these color guys get behind a saying and it catches on everyone uses it and it starts annoying the hell out of you? Where the hell did all this "behind the chains"/"in front of the Chains" crap start....

give me Al DeRogatis teamed with Curst Gowdy giving me such wonderful insider insight such as "Curt, third and eight, good time to think pass or draw" any day of the week…..

The other hot term these days is "backloaded scheduling"---also the few that say "out to the 40" when it should be "down to the 40"----or "blow the top off the defense"

"Behind the chains" was a hot saying a few years back. Looks like it made a comeback. Most of these announcers are copycat hacks. I try to ignore them.

"Clear and convincing evidence" is the one that' drives me nuts. It's like, yeah we all know the replay rule language by now so I don't need to hear that phrase 7 times per review. Plus, half the stuff goes the opposite of what it looks like.

At the end of the day...... grates me when I hear that.

The "Dial up the Blitz/Pressure/Etc" seem to be mostly mentioned in games that have a "name" defensive coordinator.... Narduzzi was in that category last year, the immortal Brett Venables (they all love him), Muschamp/Strong when at Florida, Chizik now since he took a step down, and I'm sure you guys can come up with a few more.

I am in my mid 50's and can clearly remember when only a few games a Saturday would be on. It would be the same teams over and over along with classic match ups......., Michigan/Ohio State/Notre Dame/USC/Texas/Oklahoma/Nebraska/Miami/ Florida and/or Florida St/ whoever was good. Then you'd have your teams that would be on maybe once/twice a year.....Pitt/Penn State/Texas A&M/Stanford/Arkansas/Georgia/Michigan St/some other big ten teams..... you rarely saw a PAC 10 team other than USC.....anyway got me to thinking, I must have watched 100's of those games from 70's into 90's....and quite honestly there were only two defensive coordinators that I can remember being mentioned ALL THE TIME...... Lloyd Carr and Jerry Sandusky.
I couldn't tell you who was the defensive or offensive coordinator at any of those other schools, but they always seemed to mention those two. Honorable mention to Gary Moeller and Fran Ganter....they'd get mention once in awhile. Maybe I'm wrong but that is what I remember

What if you work the chains.....

Just once, I'd like to hear Mike Patrick say the word 'seven' without over-emphasizing it.

In general, I hate how he approaches every game. He looks for the thing that is out of the ordinary, and talks about it like its the most amazing thing ever. Such as "he only had eight receptions all year, and that's his fifth in the first half alone. Holy Cow!....And there's another one!!!"

The last Sunday of every year Gene Collier has a column about these sayings. It's hilarious. I've read them all since he started them over 20 years ago. He calls it the "trite trophy" for the most overused ridiculous saying of the year..
