New rankings:

16 ASU (@ Arizona)
17 Tulane (vs Memphis)
18 Iowa State (vs KSt)
19 BYU (vs Houston)
24 KSt (@ ISU)
25 Colorado (vs OK St)

Tulane plays 9-2 Memphis and then 9-1 Army so their SOS wont take a hit. If they win out and ASU and ISU lose this weekend, I dont think BYU can jump them by beating 4-7 Houston and then a 3 loss team. Perhaps KSt could since they beat Tulane.

Speaking of the Big 12? Anyone see that dirty hit on Shadeur Sanders? A Kansas LB made as clear and obvious of an attempt that you'd ever see to end the career of another player. Deliberately speared the knee of Sanders. Maybe the dirtiest hit you'd ever see.

Also Big 12. Crazy ending to BYU/ASU. ASU up 5 on around the 5 yard line of BYU. Instead of trying to score. They had their QB purposely lose yards to burn clock and 2nd & 3rd Down. Now its 4th and Goal from the 50 and the QB throws it out of bounds to end the game (they think). Crowd rushes field. But there's 1 second. BYU throws Hail Mary. Caught. But at the 2.

I didn't see the hit, but with targeting rules in today's game, I think as a defender you probably should be hitting someone in the lower body -- probably ideally closer to the hips than the knees, but still, under the rules you are basically steered to hitting guys low.

It was as bad of an attempted hit as you’ll ever see on a quarterback.

The Big 12 sucks. But in a way, it's kind of fun. Anybody can beat anybody. The last place team could play the first place team, and the spread might be a touchdown or less - perhaps much less.

Kind of makes me wish the Super League would form and the Pitts of the world could latch onto some secondary league with the Big 12, ACC leftovers, etc. I do, however, realize they'd get frozen out of most media markets and the money would be much less than it is now, thus resulting in a lesser product.

But as for this year, Tulane is way too freaking high. No way should a team with two losses against that schedule be sniffing #17. I could see them being #25 or something. Pretty wild to think the ACC could also get three teams in. For it to happen, I think SMU and Miami would both have to win convincingly this week and then play a close game next week, while Clemson would have to beat South Carolina. And they likely have to do it in a fashion impressive enough to drop Notre Dame/Texas/Tennesee out of the top 12 if any of them lose.

Honestly, the OL for Colorado should have taken out the defender in a way that would have started a bench clearing brawl.

Anything short of that was too weak of a response to that hit.

I remember what WVU fan that use to come around here and talk Big 12 vs ACC, and I would always argue the Big 12 has no future because it doesn’t have any high upside teams. So it’s going to struggle to even make the playoffs, let alone do anything in it if it even gets a team. Whereas the ACC has some high upside teams to the point where it doesn’t need the same team to always come through.

It’s funny that the first year of the expanded playoffs has already exposed the Big 12.

And it’s only going to get worse. The highest ranking Big 12 recruiting class is TCU at 22 with a .87 average recruit ranking. You’re not competing as a top team with that level of recruiting.

The Big 12 is really just the Old Big East under a different name. Utah hasnt been happy. I wonder if the B12 doesnt get a CFP combined with the perceived cheating for BYU would make them open to listening to an ACC offer.

New Big East
WVU
Cincy
TCU (joined Big East but never played in it)
UCF (USF substitute)
Houston (played in the Big East's renamed version AAC)

B12, P12 leftovers
Kansas
KSt
OK St
TT
Baylor
Iowa St
Arizona St
Arizona
Colorado

Colorado is a good brand but the league is mostly just garbage. Misfits.

Still don't have faith in the committee. They'll tweak it to include one in final rankings if needed.

Are ACC and Big 12 leftovers going to become like the Ivy League teams? Maybe there will be FBS, FCS-1, and FCS-2 subdivisions with separate championships for each?

Ivy League does not want to compete with the big boys, and they enact rules that prevent them from being able to do so. If Ivy League wanted to make those self-imposed rules go away, they could probably find a spot in FBS somewhere (not at the top, but somewhere probably around high G5), especially with the wealthy alumni networks they have. On the other hand, I imagine ACC and Big 12 want to compete with the top conferences, but it's more of a situation that they might find themselves unable to compete given monetary disadvantages.

The b12 champ will get an auto bid
Odds are same with the ACC, who may get an additional team .

ASU is not likely to lose to Arizona. Arizona sucks and they made one of the worst coaching hires ever seen. The guy is an ass clown and thought wearing Polynesian leis at games would motivate his players. Dino Babers is the OC there so enough said. Arizona has won the last two years and last year piled it on. ASU is going to go down to Tucson and whomp on Arizona.

It will likely be an ASU-BYU rematch and the winner will be in top 10 by then.

It’s a rivalry game and ASU’s coach is a dumbass, so Arizona somehow winning is possible.

Welp, I am guessing this discussion is wrapped up.

Tulane was incredibly over-ranked. I dont understand how any team with 2 losses could be ranked that high with 0 quality/P4 wins.....and 2 losses to good, but not great teams. Its not like they lost to Oregon and OSU.
