Bottom Line For Future Pitt-Penn State 2016-19 Games!

Pitt Coach Pat & Staff will have to have superb coaching in turning their Recruits & Players into complete Team Units of Offense, Defense, and Special Teams. Just as Coach Dantonio has done at MSU against Michigan, OSU, Penn State, Wisconsin, Iowa, Nebraska and the rest of the Big Ten!

Coach Pat & Staff will have to prove they are on the same level as TCU Patterson, Baylor's Briles, and UCLA's Mora that at first had less talent according to Recruiting Rankings but was able to beat other Programs and Coaches that had alleged more talent but could not develop them into beating them with complete Teams?

Penn State Coach Franklin & Staff has shown they can Recruit on the Top 25 Level in all three years now, and now has to turn that talent into a Top 25 Team?

As for a Comparison to Coach Dantonio & DC Pat first 4 years at Michigan State their Recruit rankings were #47 2008, #17 2009, #30 2010 & #31 but produced 7-6, 9-4, 6-7, 11-2, 11-3, 7-6, and 13-1 Teams!

My point is Coach Pat & Staff will have to provide darn good to great coaching just as he did at MSU as he takes over Pitt Program and change the attitude and adopt the talent he now has into damn good teams!

This is how I see it and we shall see if and how they do it!

It takes more than talent to win games. All these nits here with their chests out on how they will whoop us based on what their/our rosters will look like need to look at a few facts.

I've stated numerous times on here and locally (Altoona area) that Pitt has beaten ND & the U the last two years and both of these teams have recruited better than Pitt and the almighty Penn State.

Rosters & talent is one thing. Coaching the talent and game day decisions are another. The jury is out on Narduzzi since he hasn't coached a game yet but from what I saw from the dominator last year leaves a little to be desired (Michigan game espically). Sorry but i'm just not shaking in my shoes with wear and gloom/doom.

Until things change these nittany trolls that frequent these boards should be less concerned about us and more concerned with a coach who may be 4th/5th best in his own DIVISION of his conference.

Anyways i'm looking forward to the games from 2016-2019 and I believe Pitt will be very competitive with the nits...

Nope, a long way to go and Wisconsin is 56th showing it is not easy getting the 4 & 5 Star Recruits, but Wisconsin has done better winning games than Penn State with far less Recruiting Rankings.

I have no fear in complimenting Penn State & Franklin & Staff of doing a great job at recruiting as far I am concern. Nor do I judge any Coach on just one season of play. Franklin won at Vandy and I expect him to win more at Penn State! Others feel differently, and I accept their right to do so too!

It is up to Pitt and all FBS Programs to do as well or better.

We are def'ly getting some really good recruits this season and the last. But when it comes to a rivalry game, all those recruiting stars means jack! Kids from both the programs will play above and beyond their rankings as they will showcase them during game day.. And you can count on that! I expect the games to be really competitive and a lot of fun. Best of luck to you guys but I hope we win!

Agree, but I would be very pleased to see not just Penn State in the Top 15 in recruiting as it it is now, but WVU & Pitt too someday! There is more evidence that Programs that do recruit on a high level still develop talent on a high level as well, but like you said, the game often is decided by good and better coaching and how the Players react to their coaching.

Some may differ with me on the Lair and I accept that with no offense taken, but I believe deeply that it is an Honor, Privilege, and Delight to play the Great Top Ten Penn State and Notre Dame Programs and Top 25 WVU Program and look forward to playing such great schools, players, among the fans.

It is up to Pitt to grow its own Program into a Top 25 Program, something that has been a goal since 1996 and only done a few times. There is no shame in trying to achieve this goal now that Pitt has more stable resources in the ACC.

Once Pitt and WVU are in their Conferences over 5 years like penn State has been for over 20 years, we all will have a better picture of the competitive status of each Coach, Team, and Players.

Until then, no problem is saying Franklin & Staff are doing a great job, Kelly & Staff too, and Holgrosen & Staff has done a good job, and Coach Narduzzi & Staff needs to step it up as he becomes more comfortable and active at Pitt!

I will be very delighted if all 4 Programs finish in the Top 25 this year, like it often happen in the 1970-80s!

Agree with pretty much everything you said Capt. Except Notre Dame.. I don't like them. They can burn. But as for the others, I really hope PSU, Pitt & WVU get back to the top 15 sooner rather than later. Will make for better rivalry games with national consequences. Recruiting will also benefit as a result.

Pkg5002.....I see it another way, I want Pitt, Penn State, and WVU to always play the Best to beat the Best! This was the Philosophy of Dr. Jock Sutherland that played on and won many Pitt National Championships from as a Player and later as a Coach.

It was actually Pitt beating Notre Dame way back in 1975 and 1976, that brought National Attention and AP/UPI Vote Rankings to Pitt's Program to win the National Championship.

This in turn helped Penn State earned the same votes and rankings to play for the National Title against Bama a few year later in 1979, and winning the National Titles in 1982-86.

As well as WVU, playing for the National Title in 1988 against Notre Dame!

When Pitt was playing, winning, and losing against Notre Dame in the 1970s and 1980s, it actually helped Penn State and WVU that in turn would beat Pitt and garner votes to play for those Titles.

I have no fear in playing against the best to be the best, and I want Pitt to play PSU, WVU, and ND every year if it was up to me!

USC did this under Pete Carroll in the 2000s and it paid off for him too, but the NCAA stepped in, he was beating them just a tad too much, in my opinion!

Ok, I guess I can come around to that idea. In fact, I think you are right, we all should def'ly play ND every year (including some of the B1G teams).. But I hope ND loses all those games..

I enjoy your posts and don't see you as any jerk. ND is playing more ACC Teams and will eventually join the ACC in my opinion. The Big Ten taking Maryland and interests in going after more ACC Schools, alarmed ND in my opinion. The days of Big Ten Schools playing more B1G are going to be less not more!
