I'm taking my son for a campus tour Oct 7th and staying for the game on the 8th. If I stay near the university, what's the best way to get to the game? I know the school shuttles students. Could we ride those too?
You could walk it but that's a loooong trek. I would recommend either Uber, or taking PAT (or is it PRT now?) bus down Fifth Avenue into downtown then walking over to the stadium, or even once downtown jumping on the T (the light rail system) over to the North Shore. You could walk to the game since it is around 3.5 miles downhill and take an uber back afterwards or take an uber both ways.
You just made the best case for an on campus stadium that’s ever been advanced on this board. Walk 3.5 miles for a football game and find another way back afterwards. Sounds fun.You could walk to the game since it is around 3.5 miles downhill and take an uber back afterwards or take an uber both ways.
You're best bet is to probably Uber, the shuttles don't typically care who rides on them to the game but it really depends on who's running the shuttle system that day for whether they are checking student IDs. Ubering takes out having to deal with other BS that comes with student shuttlesI'm taking my son for a campus tour Oct 7th and staying for the game on the 8th. If I were you, I'd check with the school to see if you could ride the buses. Do you have an official tour guide you're working with at Pitt? Maybe he could help?I'm taking my son for a campus tour Oct 7th and staying for the game on the 8th. If I stay near the university, what's the best way to get to the game? Incidentally, wouldn’t there be like 10,000-20,000 people trying to grab an Uber at the same time after the game? In my experience with similar situations that doesn’t work out very wel.
There's a T stop at Duquesne now? (I've been away for a couple of decades.)Give him the real city experience and hope on a 71A and get off at Duquense. Then hope on the T.
Yes you can take the bus.I'm taking my son for a campus tour Oct 7th and staying for the game on the 8th. If I stay near the university, what's the best way to get to the game? I know the school shuttles students. Could we ride those too?
Wait…. Drive 2 miles to pay to park and walk another mile?I'd probably drive and park downtown then walk across the bridge to the stadium.
It is my understanding that the school shuttles to Heinz are available to anyone and you both should be able to use them. I've never used them myself, but that is my understanding. I'm sure someone on campus, or during your tour, will be able to definitively answer that question for you.I'm taking my son for a campus tour Oct 7th and staying for the game on the 8th. You can drive and park for free at the Rivers Casino. It's a 5 minute walk to the stadium.I'm taking my son for a campus tour Oct 7th and staying for the game on the 8th. Or since he’s likely driving his kid to Oakland - can just drive the 3 miles are park .You just made the best case for an on campus stadium that’s ever been advanced on this board. Walk 3.5 miles for a football game and find another way back afterwards. Sounds fun.

No not really on a new stadium. Just pointing out the lunacy and impracticability of walking 3.5 miles one way through any city to watch any football game. Only to then be left post game with the same walk uphill, or paying for ride share transportation.Really? Spend $300 million to turn a 3 mile walk into a 2 mile walk. 👏 👏 👏
I would recommend this as well.Yes you can take the bus.
Or just take a PAT bus to Wood St downtown and take the free T over to the stadium.
If they have a car … this might be the best answer. I gave up my North Shore parking pass and this is what I now do.I would drive to PRT First Avenue Garage and park. Will be an easy 10 minute ride from campus area and likely no substantial traffic on that route.
it will cost you $6 to park there, but you can catch the T from there for free right to Heinz Field (or whatever the field is called now)
What about on Thurs night for WVU and getting there early during the workday? That might be a madhouse and pricey. If they have a car … this might be the best answer. I gave up my North Shore parking pass and this is what I now do.
Have you ever walked our campus during a full day of classes? 3 miles for an 18 yr old is easy.No not really on a new stadium. Pitt’s stadium situation is what it is. But to suggest it’s walkable from campus is absurd.
There's a big difference between the walk from downtown to the stadium vs. the walk from Oakland to downtown to the stadium. I do not even know what the precise distances are for each leg of that (I'm willing to bet the Oakland-to-downtown part is more than double), but there's just something mentally a lot easier about a walk when you can see your destination from your starting point.Wait…. My initial suggestion was to walk to the game as it is downhill and uber back! There's a big difference between the walk from downtown to the stadium vs. the walk from Oakland to the stadium. Someone said getting an Uber after the game must be tough ... it's actually not as bad as you would think. They have a designated Uber pick-up place near Gate B on Reedsdale Street and it's relatively efficient. Although be prepared to pay the surge pricing rate.

Walked from south Oakland up cardiac hill for years of classes at Scaife and Salk.Have you ever walked our campus during a full day of classes? 3 miles for an 18 yr old is easy.
