Change to Retro Colors Official?

I’m pretty sure it would be a major rebranding. I think they’re slowly phasing it in where they are making changes and will go whole hog eventually, if that’s really what they’re doing.

Lyke said that Nike is doing a study that will take over a year, so they could be phasing in the new look, but then they could also be awaiting the results of the study. Else, what's the point of paying to study it?

I feel bad for whoever has to work on that study. There are about as many stupid opinions about what the colors should be as there are Pitt alum.

It's just a matter of time...my guess is next year. Lyke gets it. Isn't the new Pete floor retro colors with the logo?

Pitt is the only school in the country ever where fans whine for retro colors ....which were never the school’s colors or worn.

The suits Just dialed up Electric Blue and Bananas one day at a big meeting... and called it RETRO!!!

LOL!!!!!

I'm okay with that. What we currently wear for basketball and football is awesome

Lyke: “I’m curious what you all think. So I would say that the conversation has not not happened. In a healthy debate kind of thing, I’m curious what other people think about — there’s nothing stronger than the script Pitt. It’s a fantastic decision and it’s a phenomenal brand that has great, great value. In fact, Nike is doing what they call “GIG” process. Global Identity Group is studying our brand of Pitt athletics. They only study, I want to say, three maybe four brands a year. For example they studied Michigan, they studied the Charlotte Hornets because Michael Jordan asked them to. They studied Brazil leading in to the Olympics, the last Olympics, the Rio Olympics. They study major brands, so they have taken on Pitt athletics. The Global Identity Group is studying our brand. We’re really fortunate for that. And it’s about a 12-month process, 12-18 month. We’re trying to push it more towards 12. Where they analyze everything as it relates to the brand, from the colors, to the logo, I told them, ‘You cannot touch the script logo,’ but, what is it look like on merchandise, how does it better sell? We had a great year this past year from a merchandise and licensing revenue standpoint. Record-breaking year because of the script Pitt logo. But my biggest question to them is, as Nike, analyze our logos and tell me, with the colors, what do you really think. They’re also developing a secondary logo, a panther logo that we’re going to evaluate and see whether or not we agree with it all.

I love our REAL uniforms and colors although the Gold sb be brightened up.
royal and bananas..no thanks those are clown costumes

As someone that lives in nitter country and works with 16-18 year olds...the kids love Pitts recent retro colors. I love them too.

I have a friend inside the program who said it’s official. “Worst kept secret in college sports.”

The thread I put on the pay board was that Nike is now releasing retro colors as the “main look” throughout the country, as they had one in a Kansas City with the rest of the College brands in-stock. What was significant about it was that, normally for the retro, they just have it as a royal blue shirt with the logo or something. However, this shirt was using the 2018 Nike template, which is what they use for all teams for new apparel for the year and uses only primary colors. Before this year, the type of shirt that I bought would only be in navy/Vegas.
Here’s a picture of it:

That, and they’ve already begun phasing it into the practice facility.

Let’s let kids decide everything see how that works.

Maybe kids would like perrywinkle and fuchsia if focus grouped.
...
We need a deep blue call it what you want and a brighter gold.

Something at least close to our colors

I think the kids going to college should be able to decide what their color scheme should like. They are the current ones there. Not us...

Like I said only Pitt....
Only Pitt.
Would go retro to something that never existed and change colors because of the whims of college kiddies.

Retro colors set Pitt apart from the crowd of navy and gold.
Love it. The white jerseys look great too.
I hate having 18 different uniform looks. Keep it 2. The retro blue home and away whites.
Yup. We have one of the best looks in college football, no point in messing with it.

I’d even be okay if they went “radical” and implemented royal blue pants to wear every now and then. However, no white pants!!

pitt isnt the only school the went back to retro or discuses retro, but pitt should go back full time
Yup. The two other P5 schools who should go back are Oregon and BYU. BYU looked great with the royal blue and I thought UO had a great look. Why have 10000 uniform combinations with “night black” and “stormtrooper white” when the green and gold works!

Not true! Somehow I managed to pick two such schools (the other being Temple, where the officially-designated colors are cherry and white . . . and there is endless debate over just what shade of cherry is cherry.)

Yeah I’m aware of what shitty schools and programs do with colors. Very aware thanks.
Let’s join in the fun.

And I’m sure even Temple retains something that looks reasonably close.
Not a departure like navy to perrywinkle and old gold to bananas

Exactly. Today's "retro" uniforms look NOTHING like the unis of Pitt's heyday.

Amen. They’re not a carbon copy of what they wore in the past, but I love them. I think they look as good as, if not better, than the past ones. However, I do wish a few minor things were different, such as the pant stripes matching the ones we used to wear. Middle strip a little too small.

Would you add a yellow face mask, or add stripes to the jersey, if given the chance?

These aren’t what we’re going to use. It’s closer to the early 80s
But they’re using them for this year for the transition, correct? Or are they unveiling another throwback before the season? I’ve heard a few conflicting things.

It's basically the same "design" as this, But I do like the brighter colors of today. It's still retro, it's the "look" more than exactly the same shades of colors that makes it retro.

All teams will continue to use the current Navy and Vegas gold this year, but will have a retro alternate uniform. Next year we will no longer wear navy and Vegas. It’ll be retro as our sole color scheme

Gotcha. Will football wear the retros more than twice a year at home and on road?

I haven’t heard how they’re going to divide up the football season yet. I think the players get some say into it. I just know that this is the last year of anything in the current color scheme.

The new blue is close to what we used as the retros. The gold is a little different like I said. I think people will be happy.
