Ranked 20th. 1 of 3 teams in the top 25 out of the AAC. That's 1 more team than the ACC has by the way.

Maybe I am not looking carefully enough at their stats, but Pitt has been outperformed by this program since 2004.

How is this possible? Besides the obvious head coaches that have passed through there(a revolving door of sorts), they have played in a poor stadium, in poor conferences and a city that isn't exactly a place that will lure recruits, but they have won enough to keep a fan base satisfied.

I look at this program and it frustrates me even more that I have purchased season tickets for 24 years straight.

Was funny at the end of the game how the announcer said “Temple upsets unbeaten Cincinnati”.

I think at this point even casual fans realized Temple was favored to win the game.

I think Temple could beat Pitt

They certainly could.

Other than the brutal loss to Villanova their only defeats are to BC and a good Buffalo team. They are very well coached and playing good football at the right time.

Cindy has def outperformed pitt over last 10-15 years. No question about it. If it was only sboitvon field performance, the ACC would have invited other schools over us c

Coaching and coaches understanding the players they have and using them as such. We have a QB who can run... But yet rarely call any read options for him? Moorhead at MSU just ran Fitzgerald 5 straight plays on QB powers and reads because he knows that's his strength. Us fans know Pickett can run... But Watson is so far up his own butt he sticks to his play calling and does not call plays to help his players.

If the ACC had taken Cincy insread of us, they'd be the ACC version of Rutgers and we'd be a mid-level AAC team getting beat up by who ever would've replaced Cincy as the big dog this year.

Ohio high school football is far superior to Pa and Cincinnati, Northern Kentucky is much better football than the vastly overrated WPIAL.

I’m not quite sure what that has to do with it, but Temple was a 3 point favorite today and rightfully so.

You’d think these announcers/talking heads would understand pointspreads by now, but apparently not.

Cincy will not be ranked anymore. Temple is playing well right now, but I don’t know if I can call a team that lost to Villanova good. Villanova is 0-4 in the Colonial Athletic Association, they’re not even a good FCS team.

As I mentioned before they are playing their best at the right time.

Loss to Villanova not good obviously, but the losses to BC and Buffalo certainly no shame. Both those teams are certainly better than Cincinnati.

Absolutely. Cincinnati just happens to play one of the easiest schedules in college football history which propelled them to a 6-0 start before today and probably looking at 10 or 11 wins this season. I think Fickell is putting them on the right track. They certainly have the right blueprint, I don’t know if I could tell you the last time they actually made a bad head coaching hire.

Yep, they really have been the cradle of coaches over the past 20 years.

I think they were lucky to get UCLA very early, Kelly starting to get them playing much better.

Schedule is a little backloaded as well, but they should still win 8 games this year.

Agree Fickell has done a nice job relatively quickly.

The OP inquired why UC has outperformed Pitt over the last 15 years.
That's the question I tried to answer. I lived in westrn PA for many years and Chester county and now Central Ohio. When you have a scarcity of young people, the tasks that rely on young people suffer.
When I graduated from.OSU in 1983, Allegheny county had 1.6 million people and Franklin had 800,000. Today Franklin county has 1.26 and Allegheny has 1.23.
Pitt football suffers from the demise in a local pool of talent.

Villainova is Youngstown State.

Granted, schedules are longer, but from the exit of Sid Gilman in the 1950s to 2006, Cincinnati has no ten win seasons and more tellingly never finished in an AP top 25 poll. Historically they were a lot like Temple, a sort of middling eastern independent MAC to Big East bubble team.

But in the 10 years after that they had three 10 win, one 11 win, and one 12 win season -- and finished ranked four times. So yes I think the superior talent pool may have something to do with it but more so that Brian Kelly and Butch Jones are good coaches. And Dantonio recruited a lot of Kelly's players. Tuberville was good too but is past his prime and their talent is back down a bit, to the extent Temple was a favorite.

Now no one is going to compare Brian Kelly to Gillman, but I think that's the biggest difference between our programs, he basically gave them a higher high than we had with our best Wanny year. One point better and sustained it longer
