** There were plenty of emotions to be experienced this bittersweet afternoon at the Peterson Events Center.

** The strongest emotions were felt of course by none other than Sam Clancy whose number 15 was retired at halftime. It was nothing short of completely remarkable looking at a man so large with a career based on strength and toughness speaking to the crowd with tears streaming down his face.

** Congratulations to Sam on his tremendous honor.

** As for the rest of the game, there were plenty of other emotions too. Frustration. Excitement. Despair, Joy, Disappointment. And for me, even some pride. But this time, not much anger.

** It’s always tough for me to watch our Panthers if it doesn’t feel like they brought something close to their best. But that wasn’t the case today.

** Maybe our Panthers were able to channel their inner Sams and found some physicality we haven’t seen as often as we’d like this year.

** This isn’t to say we got the better of the physical battle. It may have been even, but even this exceeded my expectations.

** Another aspect which made the last two games troubling was watching a team that simply didn’t look “well coached.” Our offensive game plans nor our substitutions seemed to make much sense.

** Coach Capel was much more on his game, with a gameplan that included ball movement, much better ball security and use of his troops which gave us really good chance to win.

** On the defensive end, holding the Tigers to 26 second half points and just 8 baskets was a result of really digging down and executing. Forcing three Clemson shot clock violations after the break tells that story.

** In fact, perhaps had we won either of our last two games, one could have walked away from the Pete with a decent enough feeling with an overtime loss. Instead, I’m also left with the notion that had we played as well as we did today in our two games as we did today, we would have likely won one of those. Maybe both.

** But alas, we were done in today mostly by Clemson’s superior three point shooting, especially scorching their way to 10-16 in the first half. Truth be told however, we have no one to blame but ourselves for most of that. We let them find their way beyond the arc far too easily.

** A big key to our second half comeback was allowing the Tigers half as many three attempts in the second half as they had in the first.

** This threw the game into overtime, where we were done in by three plays. The first was the three by Chauncy where the ball just found its why out to him after a scrum. Just some bad luck there.

** Next was the offensive foul call on Cam. To my eye, that seemed like a terrible call and a terrible time. Maybe someone can explain to me why I'm wrong.

** Finally, in the final minute, Jaland’s too tough one on one three missed, while Chase’s too tough one on one three won the game.

** It was good to see Cam bounce back with a much better effort today after his last outing which left most of the Panther fan nation ready to put him out to pasture.

** Gulillermio also bounced back very well leading me to hope Capel has retrieved his confidence in him, allowing a better split of time at the five with Cam.

** After last game, I suggested that something needed to change. Perhaps our performance today indicates that something has.

** Starting next Saturday, our job becomes stacking up about 10 more Conference wins to get ourselves in the tournament without much doubt.

** If we play the way we did today this is something we can do.

Nice recap except this team ain’t stacking up wins
Capel hasn’t got it in him to fashion a lineup that can consistently win
Period

Lowe is the biggest problem right now. And these coaches have to be able to diagnose and find a better offensive balance (and at times they do).

Lowe is shooting 38% from the field, and gets by far the most shot attempts.

And in the last five games, Lowe has the same amount of turnovers as assists. He is killing this team right now. They have to get either Leggett on the ball more, or rotate Cummings in. Or deliberately run sets for players outside of high pick and rolls.

Lowe can absolutely do his thing, but the volume has to come WAY down for this team to be successful.

Good perspectives, DT. We need 10 wins now in conference to be confident we're in the NCAAT. If we come up short in conference with 7 or 8 more wins, we'll need 2 or 3 in the ACCT to make the NCAAT. That's how I'm seeing it now.

I thought we went through the motions in the 1st half. We played very well most of the 2nd half, but one half of good ball is not enough to beat a team like Clemson. The team did show heart and battled to OT. Offensive execution, or more specifically lack there of, late in regulation lost us that game.

I was lucky enough to have watched Sam play and he was a beast . The only player I’ve seen at Pitt that remotely reminds me of Sam was Blair .

As strong as the big Fella was I think Sam wins a fight over a held ball . Actually the ball would’ve exploded .

I’ve said for years a school like Pitt needs to find an undersized center who’s under recruited and a beast . Both Sam and Blair were 6’5” as was Jerome Lane and they dominated the boards .

The second half Pitt played defense the way they need to play the rest of the season .

Clemsons first half shooting was some of the best I’ve seen in awhile .

Except for the Duke game Pitt could’ve won the other three games , this team lacks the one player who wills them to win these close games . If only Bub stayed another year .

Well how about Capel calling a time out to set up some play, in the last 2 minutes when we either had a 1 point lead or the game was tired?

Capel had 3 timeouts ti use to draw up some sort of play, when Pitt had trouble getting any kind of decent shot during that time. He did absolutely nothing with them and carried them into OT.

He takes Cummings out after any mistake he makes and never play him again, even though he is one of the best 3 point shooters we have. But Ish who continues to over dribble and turn the ball over, stays in the game. You all think Lowe is the major problem, but he really doesnt shoot as much as ISH. His big problem right now is TOs, because like ISH he to is over dribbling. And that falls on Capel and his scheme. Both of those guys cannot play the same role with dribble drive. Its too easy to defend. One needs to be the shooting guard. Capel coaches as though he doesnt ave one. Take the damn 3 point shot, instead of dribbling between 2 defenders.

Just unbelievable that Capel cant or wont see how teams are playing supposedly his 2 best players. Its not like the NBA where you cant clog the middle.

"The ball would've exploded." Haha. Good line. 👍

Cummings made two bad back to back defensive plays .

He is just not ready. He is a huge defensive liability right now. It doesn't help that in the past couple games he took a couple 3s at key times and air balled them both.
I think he’s going to be really good in time . Much better than his brother.

I am a little worried about Amsal . I’m not sure he’s quick enough or stays after this season .

How many back to back bad defensive plays did the rest of the team have? That is no reason to not play him. Hell the best players on the team sucks at defense. Why not bench them? The have lost 4 in a row, and its not Cummings fault. They could use his ability to hit a few 3s though.

You don’t play defense or keep making mental lapses you ride the pine . It’s that simple .

Have you seen the threes he has taken lately? More air than rim. Just ugly. It's obvious this level of play is just too much for him right now.

I am probably his biggest fan and have been touting this kids ability for almost 3 years here. Having said that, I can't help to be a bit disappointed. I thought by the 2nd half of this season he would be helping us bigly with 3s and other scoring. When you give up a rebound you should have had and get beat and have to foul then you can't be out there.
When this team was at its defensive best today, only the starters were playing. Maybe Capel didn't want to disrupt how well they were playing or he didn't trust the bench to come in and be the weak link. Either way, Cummings just hasn't proven to be ready against the type of physical defense that is played in conference. I'm used to him being super confident in his offense, but, those key air balls he put up there must have smacked him down a bit. Capel is going to have to use some bench tho, so I think Cummings is the best bet to emerge.

Well maybe so, but it is routinely called in my estimation. But I only saw it once.
Replayed that one a couple of times. Clemson player ran right into Cam just as he raised his arms. I think the severity of the hit is what brought the whistle. Otherwise, it should have been a no-call, IMO. Bad luck.

Cam was literally just standing with the ball and not moving. The defender ran into him not because of any movement by Cam. And he bounced off of him and actually kinda of flopped.

I’d love to get a supervisor of official’s take on that one.
