...Florida State is good
...Nebraska is good
...Texas is good
...Michigan is good

College Football announcers always say that crap. But I never hear them say it's better when Pitt is good.

Nebraska? My left nut.
Michigan? Only for the 10 people left in Detroit who pay taxes.
FSU? Only for the 15 guys still living who care about Catholics v. Convicts.
Texas? Nah....all they care about in Austin is getting laid....and who's to blame them?

Thats hilarious.

"Catholics versus Convicts"

What the heck is that all about? I will assume Notre Dame is involved? Please tell us how Florida State is involved? They're a bunch of Southern Baptists.

The "Convicts" of Catholics vs Convicts was Jimmy Johnson-led Miami. Not FSU.

Correct. After the Irish went down to Miami and got slaughtered, the year after the shirt was and ND beat Miami 31-30.

For FSU: it was ”Tradition vs. the Polls” in November, 1993 when the Charlie Ward led Seminoles came into South Bend #1. ND Was #2 that week, rose to #1 only to fall to BC at home the following week.

Some tried to make the slogan “Catholics vs. Criminoles” but it did not stick as well as the original.

hmm. i think college football was better when nebraska was in big 12/8 and they had a nice rivalry with Oklahoma or even on a smaller scale, colorado..

I think college football is better when tosu and michigan are top 10 teams and playing the last week of the big 10 season..

I think Texas is a very polarizing program and people like to like or like to hate them. when they are average, it's a tad dissapointing..

So i kind of get this mindset. i think college football and the acc was better when a top 5 Clemson team played a top 10 fsu team. sadly, i dont see this program ever regaining their status, not under norvell for sure..

Ha...i was taking liberties.
Back in the day when Jimmy Johnson coached Miami, they had a showdown with Holtz coached ND
The game was billed as "Catholics versus convicts".

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but I loved the 2007 season when you had a bunch of teams that you do not usually see in the national title contender conversation. I loved how there were no FBS undefeateds, and the only 1-loss major conference team after the bowls was Kansas.

And I'm not saying I liked 2007 because of 13-9.

pitt should have beaten ND that year and had they done so, that game wouldnt have been as big. Darnell fumbled three times on one play in endzone..

also, the U won that game, they got royally screwed on a Highsmith run late in that game.

Cause Pitt has been "good" for a 6 year stretch in the last 80. What is the outlier here? 74 years of mediocrity, or 6 years of excellence?

Notre Dame too, when they had a down stretch the TV analysts where sad, I love it when they suck, like I like the Cowboys being irrelevant the last 25 years,

I think college football is better when other geographic regions have powerful teams. Clemson and Bama stockpiling weapons like Cold War adversaries is kind of a worn out story.

I've always thought that slogan was really unfair. I mean after all, at that point most of those Notre Dame players hadn't actually been convicted.

Yet.

I'm more excited when all those teams are down and no name/no history teams come out of nowhere to challenge for the top spots.

The irony being that Miami probably had as many Catholics on the roster as ND.

And Notre Dame had a lot of players on those late 80s teams that would take a cheap shot at an opponent when it had the chance. I remember Vernon Kirk’s legs caught under a pile and an ND defender noticed and began driving him backward instead of letting Vernon fall forward.
