"Things have been pretty grim for the past few years in the Steel City and new coach Jeff Capel has certainly inherited a big mess to clean up. It won't be easy, but Capel has proven to be a formidable recruiter as a head coach at Oklahoma and VCU and during his time at Duke had emerged as perhaps the country's top recruiting assistant coach.

So was James Robinson, who was also a national top 50-60 player. So was Marcus Carr. So were a number of other Dixon recruits over the years. What's the point of this exchange?

this board is weird--it's like once a new coach is hired, posters develop retrograde amnesia.

this is a really good and important get for Capel and Pitt, most impressive because of the late stage of the recruiting cycle we're in right now and the very few legit prospects left for 2018. It's also a good omen for future recruiting classes. But this isn't the first 4 star, top 100 kid we've had in a decade. Not even close. Now if you were to focus on Dixon's last 3 classes, or even the 2013 class that had 4 star Mike Young in it but otherwise lacked star power, the discussion woudl be more relevant. But for some posters to act like we've never seen a recruit of McGowen's caliber at Pitt before is just bizarre.

If the point is that Dixon;s recruiting was subpar, that;s a given that everybody can agree on. But he did bring some 4 and even 5 star players in during his long tenure. With the notable exception of our Elite 8 team, he just never seemed able to put enough of them together on the same roster to get to the end of the line in March.
