Did anyone else hear Jeff Capel on the Fan this afternoon?

Jeff Capel's weekly segment on the Fan with Andrew Fillipponi was today at around 4:45. Fillipponi spent 75% of the segment asking Capel questions about the Steelers. He asked one question about the UNC game and then spent the rest of the time asking him about Antonio Brown, Le'Veon Bell, the dynamics in their locker room etc. No Louisville questions and no other questions about the season or the team.

It was bad. It just shows how hard it is for our teams to get legitimate airtime in this city.

Such a sad state for our "flagship" station. Also sad that a city of our size only has one true all sports station and its so lousy. So many annoying, trolling hosts.
Trolling indeed. That's all 90% or more of all media today.

Actually I found the bit where Capel talked about not understanding professional sports and the dynamics between coaches who are making far less than their players. Sounded to me that he has zero interest beyond the college game.

What do you want from a useless phony?

I agree with Capel. The Stillers and the rest of those jabronis aren't worth the time to talk about them. Once a player leaves Pitt and plays professionally, he's a non factor for me. I wouldn't know who from Pitt plays professionally, except for Conner. And that's only because the Stillers are shoved down our throats by these loser media types.

I didn't hear the interview because I rarely listen to that wasteland of a station and I was out-of-town anyhow.

I very seldom listen to the Fan, but one night I had it on and the announcer was talking Pitt hoops and continually mispronounced Capel's name. Finally a caller called the idiot and corrected him. I don't know who the announcer was, but it wasn't PZ or AF

They did the same thing with pat Bostick on the weekly stints he did with the morning show. Lots of Steeler talk, Nitter talk and a few minutes on Pitt. When you call Dunlap out on it, he tells you no one is interested in Pitt. And this is the flagship station.

Well, Pitt needs to give The Fan an ultimatum. Either talk predominantly Pitt when a Pitt coach or player is doing an on the air interview or we will change our Flagship Station. (We shouldn't care what they do at other times when Pitt reps aren't on the air.) If they don't cooperate--follow through and change to another station!

Well Capel is a huge Steelers fan and has mentioned that, so Poni probably thought he would discuss the Steelers with him, instead of, ya know, his own team. Just poor.

There isn't another option with the same bandwidth.

From my perspective, Poni uses caller comments and questions to he poses to guests to help steer whatever narrative he is trying to sell each day. He's out to elicit (over)reactions most days, and seldom strives to frame things as they are but rather how he sees it and why he is right.

Yep, that's pretty much it.
Pitt fans could call in though all day long and troll Filiponi, and tell him we want him to ask real questions about the team.

What good is the bandwidth if the content is minimal or even negligible and much of the content paints an excessively negative picture in an attempt to stir up trouble and controversy with Pitt fans for the sake of ratings?

Less bandwdth can be offset with more and better content. Why should Pitt pay for bad publicity and little enough of that kind? Pitt can and should do better, IMO.

Less bandwidth means Panther fans in many parts of the Metropolitan Area won't be able to listen to games over the airwaves. We have an older fanbase, do the math.

Sad as it is, Admin does not have much in the way of negotiating power with the Fan.

Are they that old that they can't listen to radio over the internet? I am as old as dirt and I know how to do it.

I can understand that on the internet because that's where bandwidth is critical. Bandwidth for FM stations has to do with how well the station stays within the sidebands of its frequency. But when a station broadcasts over the airwaves and you need to measure how far the signal goes, all that matters is the power output in watts, antenna location, and if it's on AM or FM. I know that KDKA-FM is a high power FM station.

Are you seriously telling me you don't know a ton of people over 60 that struggle with technology?

Well, my kids tell me I am pretty good with technology for an old guy and I am well beyond 60. So, maybe you have a point. Still, how hard is it to google your station and hit the listen live button?

You're assuming that everyone owns a computer, which for older people is really not a given either. Then there's the issue of those driving or working outside or whatever - although are the ACC games on Sirius at this point?

My point is that there is still many people who listen to the games on the radio. For us we always listen to the pregame driving in for home games (although lately we have been turning it off when Andy goes off on one of his ill-placed editorial rants ).

The exact range for The Fan 93.7 is when driving out of town on the PA Turnpike is the first tunnel. That's like one hour or 60 something miles.
The same for coming into Pittsburgh traveling West we get The Fan as soon as we exit the last tunnel on the turnpike.
When we exit the first tunnel out of town going East we lose 93.7 for good so we now listen to 93.7 on Radio.com.

I guess I live in a different environment here in the DC Metro area than Western PA. I don't know anyone old or young among my acquaintenances who doesn't own and use a computer. I know Western PA is different and must have many more older retired blue colar people who either don't have computers or even if they do have computers still aren't even minimally comfortable with technology.

Hey, I'm considerably older than 60 and my wife bought me a Samsung smart watch for Christmas. It does just about everything except cook my meals and dress me. It's taking me a while to learn how to use it, I'll say that. And I'm rather tech savvy. But it's fun.

Who needs a computer with today's modern phones? Can cast anything I want to the 55in flat screen, can use the printer, can even hook a keyboard up to it if i really want to.

But my mom (74) is hopeless. So is my Aunt (71) and cousin(50) who have lived almost there entire lives in Silicone Valley. They have always leaned on someone like me to do the simplest things re: phones & computers. They know TV & radio, and use both a ton.

Yep. You can do all those things w/o a laptop or desktop. I generally don't though; because I have a cheap phone that is painfully and frustratingly slow when accessing the net and because my eyes now struggle with relatively small screens. I do print from my ipad and watch games on it at home and when I travel. But, my wife is about as hopeless as those relatives you describe.
