Dior… HE GONE

Uhh I posted 12 minutes ago that he should be gone. I agree, violence should not be tolerated!
Interestingly in the Swamp Kings doc that just came out, Urban Meyer said the only way basically to get kicked off team was hitting a woman. He did that and then the kid suicided a year later. It was an interesting discussion in the series.

I'm sure getting effectively kicked out of school two days before the semester begins and taking him away from a great mentor like Capel will do wonders for this troubled youth's mental health. Another brilliant decision by the Pitt administration.

She just took office on July 17th. That tour started beginning of August. The fall semester just started. Depends what exactly led to the action at this time, and who wanted it. The cost of one person going on that trip is insignificant to the athletic budget..
Sure. The cost of saying oh let’s let this kid represent our university this year letting him go represent the team in Spain then saying NAHHHH nvm is great.

In typical Pitt fashion, they handled this about as poorly as possible. They decided to stick by the kid, which whatever I didn’t agree at the time but it’s a decision, then cut him loose right before the year starts? Stupid and inept. Joepa would have him clean the Pete and few times then average 12/6

Shocker. Thankfully this is resolved now. The guy’s character is clearly such that he easily could have run into trouble during the season.

I am on record in this thread denigrating Pitt’s actions. Doesn’t change the fact the kid is a POS too
Pitt has had its fair share of scumbags recently. Dior beating a woman is as bad as it gets, but Hughley stealing a car from a woman is scummy too, and people couldn’t wait to get him back. Ithiel Horton risked his life by punching a police officer in the face, something that would have completely been justified had the cop opened fire on him. Punching a cop is pretty bad.

Jeff Capel was quoted as saying “It’s unfortunate that he has to miss the past 2 months.” No, Jeff, it’s unfortunate he punched a cop.

Remember Levance Fields tried to grab a cops gun and had to be tasered before being taken into custody?

Maybe kick these kids off the team after screwing up instead of reinstating them.

I can't remember the details of the Hayes incident. The report on Dior was really really bad though. Of course, the time for Pitt to boot him was a year ago, not 3 days before the semester, in any case.

We are in for some mediocre times ahead. Good thing our place in the college athletics landscape is secure and stable for the long term.....

Mediocre ? why ? cause Pitt lost a 4 star kid that never played a second ? LOL
dumbest thing I ever heard , especially coming after a season like last year.

I have no clue what happened. Maybe someday we will, Maybe not. But a lot of us constantly said we doubted Dior would ever play a game here. He went to 9? high schools and will now enroll in his 4th college; he didnt pull it together.

Pinning the timing of this on a chancellor that's been on the job for one month is over the top. Who cares about who was on the trip to Spain? Absolutely no one. If it was Heather making the call; she's been around more than 5 minutes then okay, maybe there would be more of a question. If it was truly the chancellor I guarantee her priority wasn't screening the roster of the basketball oversees trip the first couple weeks she was on the job. Even if it had been brought to her attention, someone isn't going to make a snap decision like that when they are unfamiliar with everyone and everything before getting more of a lay of the internal political landscape with the individuals she's going to have to work with over the next bunch of years. What really would have been dumb is coming in and immediately making snap judgements and decisions that would piss everyone off. I have no idea what has gone on behind closed doors, what warnings or promises were made, and no one else should know such things either, and they certainly shouldn't be leaking them, so frankly, I could care less about the timing. Personally, I'd be more concerned with a chancellor interfering in decisions of the AD and coaching staff and what that might do to those relationships going forward.

Chris Rainey begs to differ with Urban Meyer’s domestic abuse policy lol

Dayon Hayes was accused of pouring bleach on the mother of his child, pushing her into a wall, and slamming a door on her.

Wow. Can't believe they would wait until the start of the semester to kick him to the curb. If this is purely about what happened last year, it should never have come to this. Should have been dealt with at the end of the season at the latest. Makes you wonder if something else happened.

Better now than two months from now. Personally, it was a really quick move if it was forced by the new chancellor.
Yeah she seems awesome. Our sports are in a great place with this chancellor at the helm.

Who else would the timing be pinned on? It clearly came from above Capel and Lyke, which is frankly, absurd. What’s the point of having an athletic director if you’re not going to trust her to make a decision that’s best for Pitt athletics and Pitt as a whole. Maybe Joan should just take over for Heather and run athletics as well when she inevitably bolts for Ohio State now that her nuts are cut from her.

The girl this happened to wasn’t a Pitt student. She wasn’t even a Pennsylvanian. He clearly came to an understanding with the prior administration, Capel and Lyke if he accomplished all the tasks set forth then he could come back. To decide you’re not going to let him participate as a student when you weren’t even here for it is the height of stupidity. What does she know that Heather, Capel and the judges of Pittsburgh don’t know? How was he cleared by all of these people but now someone who was in Minnesota at the time comes in to save the day. This Karen sucks.

I could care less about the timing under the circumstances. What you are saying about the interference in the decisions of the AD and coaching staff, that is troubling if true. Biggest thing is the relationship between the chancellor and the AD and coaching staffs. That is huge, so the status of those relationships after this is the most important thing.

Chancellor interference in athletics has been the downfall of Pitt athletics many times in its history.

The team will be good this season, we have Blake.
The ultimate team player.

I am really confused here. Did Dior do something else to get tossed? Or did the new Chancellor review the prior incident and just use that info to get rid of him? In any event, WVU just got another nice player for their Sweet 16 run. And Dior will make more at WVU than Pitt.

Nothing new

That makes literally no sense. Wow. Capel must be pissed. One can question whether Pitt should have kicked him out of school or not but they made the decision to suspend him from school for a semester and the team for a season. If he didnt get into further trouble, it is absolutely unacceptable for the new chancellor to reverse the decision of the previous chancellor. That is terrible. You dont get to redo someone else's disciplinary decision. Only at Pitt this would happen.

You're even dumber than I thought.

One day i want to know who is who...... I think its all a big lie.
but in the meantime...

Just getting a chance to go through this. I’m hoping more details come to light in the coming days explaining what happened. I was of the opinion that he should’ve been kicked out last year, but to do it now is odd. Practically speaking, is there any way we fill the scholarship before the season starts?

Uh... Hayes. Seems kind of weird that he's still around if Johnson isn't. Can't imagine Capel doesn't see the irony in that.
The assault charge against Hayes was withdrawn by prosecutors. Compared to a Judge dismissing charges against someone, it’s huge. Either the plaintiff couldn’t or didn’t want to prove his guilt, so prosecutors withdrew the charges. The harassment charge being moved to a summary offense wasn’t a great look for the judicial system, but whatever.
