Dior Johnson in trouble

It's a real shame. Not for Johnson. He did what he did and should suffer the consequences. But us Pitt fans are constantly getting kicked in the balls by the off-season antics of the players that have been coming to Pitt lately. We finally get 1 decent recruit and he turns out to be a felon who just committed assault.

If these charges all prove to be true, this is giving Lyke a lot of ammunition to fire Capel and be justified. Other coaches have been fired for a lot less.

I've taken a dislike for Capel and this lack of recruiting decent players with good character is the main reason. But I doubt he'll be fired for this. He should be, but he won't be. The backlash would be deafening, even for a very poor coach with pathetic results like Capel.

Very disappointed....again. But what the hell? There are more important things to do than be concerned about some kid felon on a basketball team who does dumb things.

Pitt isnt going to allowed a woman beater back on the team. Are you kidding me? I say they shouldn't even suspend guys for minor stuff like what Horton and Hugley did but hitting a woman??? 0 tolerance for that. If he did this, he's gone....probably by the weekend

I hope you are right. I just don't know. Capel is pretty desperate though I'm sure this decision would be made way above him and even Heather. But nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to college athletics.

And special treatment has been going on for years at the blue blood programs. Not that I'm advocating such behaviors but at Pitt the Pittsburgh media vulchers are ready to pounce even if the charges are minimal.

College athletics is a dirty business. No doubt. We'll see how low in the mud Pitt is willing to go with this, if the charges are found to be totally accurate. If they don't kick him off the team and out of school, then we'll know they're down there pretty deep.

Don't know how this ends up. But a definite gut punch to us fans (no pun intended). This team is better than last year, even without this guy. But I think most of our upside is gone without him as well.

If this is all true, this is probably the worst thing a Pitt football/basketball player has ever done. Wow does this sound bad.

What saves Capel here is that Johnson recruited Pitt not vice versa. Johnson called Pitt and asked to come. Had Pitt actually "recruited" this guy for years, that would be a really bad mark for Capel.

Sorry but the coaching staff — ultimately the head coach — is responsible for due diligence on everyone in the program. The portal has changed the dynamic, but Capel should not get even a sliver of a pass. He knew he was in a must-win situation and cut corners. This will be yet another nail in his coffin.

We all saw the number of schools this kid has been affiliated with and thought something isnt right with this kid. However, I really cant blame Capel for taking a chance. He is desperate to win and he thought worst-case scenario, the kid leaves in March, or maybe quits the team before that. But the upside was huge.

That’s silly
What due diligence predicts this ?
Ben Howland and Jamie Dixon had players suspended - think they cut corners ?
Happens even to Roy Williams and coach K in history

Capel said last week they did due diligence, made a lot of calls. I would assume the response was something like:

- bad attitude
- bad teammate
- hard to coach
etc

So, like all basketball stuff. You couldn't predict he would assault his girlfriend. However, kids of low character are more prone to get into legal trouble

I honestly think Pitt wasn't aware of what happened until last night. If Dior didn't tell them and charges weren't filed until yesterday, the PPD isn't going to call up Capel to alert him. I mean he did this interview with Chris Peak 5 days after assaulting his girlfriend

Wtf.
He’s gone.
And the Jeff internship should be too.
What an utter disaster of a hire.

No excuse. Pitt and Capel should know the character of this guy by his past activities and constant changing of schools. The kid was and is trouble and Capel took a huge risk to get him and failed....again. Capel should have seen this but didn't. So whose fault is that?

REALLY trying to give dude the benefit of the doubt. The team posted a photo of him & his teammates in short sleeves during the Majors classic (after the alleged conflict took place) and nothing looks unusual, as far as the scissors allegations go. Could be missing something, though.

Capel got good reviews from those that knew Dior. Reports showed him to be a good teammate, easy to coach, good attitude, but was supposed to be a free spirit and outspoken. No reports of being violent or a felon.

There was no signs of his being trouble prior to Pitt. Do not make things up to make a point.

This is absolutely terrible if true, my excitement for this season just took a huge hit, the kid is obviously very troubled if this is true , but he was far and away Levels above any guard we’ve had here in years and was gonna help us win many games. This is brutal all around smh

While I'm sure he didn't have any legal trouble, "good kids" dont go to 10 HS's in 3 years and commit to 3 different colleges. He obviously had major problems. We all knew that but I personally thought it was just basketball-related stuff like he didnt like the coach at HS A, didnt like the teammtes at HS B, didn't like school at HS C, etc. I basically thought he was an immature kid of low character who quit every team as soon as something got difficult

Poor kids do

It’s entirely possible when Capel did his due diligence he got the wrong Dior… the other one with the same birth date etc that everyone initially had confused with the other Dior accused in this situation. It happens I guess?🤷‍♂️

Can he shoot?

I wasn't making stuff up. Don't give some kid a free pass just because he was a highly prized recruit. Unfortunately, he isn't any longer. Trouble like that just doesn't happen out of the clear blue sky.

Why do I waste my time with this? He's done and it's his fault. Move on.

This pattern of recruiting kids that get in trouble is very concerning. It's a real pattern now. I hope Lyke sees it.
