Donors are going to make more demands now than ever. They will essentially get the final word at a lot of schools. Money talks….

There's 2 types of GM's

1. The GM who is the boss of the HC and reports to the AD. This is Andrew Luck.

2. The GM who the HC hires and is more of just a consultant. This is most current GM's.

The point is, the donors will start to put even more stipulations on the money they invest.

Even at Pitt, you have Pelusi vs the BOT’s. It will only get worse.

Ron Rivera has got to be the only coach in NFL history to lead a team to a division title with a below .500 record twice.

Is Cal hoping that putting him in charge will lead to them winning the ACC with a 5-7 record?

I think that has always been true to some extent. Stakes are higher and there's a lot more money in the game so groups of donors are working together, now. That's probably the difference.

i remember reading about this being an issue at texas years and years ago, under Strong.. big time donors who donated millions, wanting a stronger say in who plays and even game day decisions..

Charlie strong was complaining about it. And this was years before NIL and transfer portals and the nonsense we live in now.. i mean, i get it from both sides. i give Pitt 7 digits, i want more than my name on a plaque outside a weight room or a brick on a sidewalk in front of the pete with my name on it..

And if im a HC, i dont want some middle aged rich guy telling me who should start at WR or what plays i should be calling, but i Sure want his money..

So tough spot for sure and again, that was even before NIL. if im financing a big part of a recruiting class, i think i'd want a say in who plays..

Who is to say that a donor isn't promising a kid playing time and then leaning on the coach over it? I think some of these people donate huge money and do big NIL deals just for clout. I can think of better ways of blowing my money but these guys are standing on the sidelines and are in the locker room (Miami comes to mind).

i agree and i said that Strong in Texas said this exact same thing is happening..

i just said that i can see why it's happening. If im giving that kind of money, i'd want some return for my money. and i agree, it's a HUGE issue cause i can see why a HC is getting pissed too. some clown rich fan thinking he can call the shots..

it's an issue now, it has been an issue before. some of these programs have to think what they are agreeing to when they cash these 7 digit checks from boosters... sometimes it's not worth it..
