QB at Tennessee

For the folks with law knowledge, would there be any punishments for collusion or does that only apply if there’s a legal agreement such as collective bargaining?
There should be an agreement in place with the agent. I suspect it gives him all the power. I also suspect the only clause that interested the Dad was the fees and expenses clause.

It’s probably not a coincidence that the two schools over the last two years that we have heard the players sat out/threatened to sit out in the spring are Florida State last year and Tennessee this year.

Both coaches have a reputation as being sh*tty recruiters, and their ability to land players is based purely on making by far the best offer on the market.

The type of players that draws is self selecting.
It’s why recruiters still matter, even in the age of NIL.
Recruiting is mostly transactional & playing time related.

I'd be shocked if anyone seriously threatened to sit out, but in this day and time anything is possible. And you're right about being aware of the company you keep. I think the big common denominator with Tennessee & Florida State is Big Dave Uiagalelei. That dude is a cancer.

Barely.

There are a few NCAA athletes who do commercials in what are legit NIL deals with national companies like Turbo Tax or Dr. Pepper. 99% of NIL deals are simply booster pay for play in disguise.
You’re flat wrong as usual .
They don’t need to be National - most are regional -
Like the ones Pitt players do.
Car dealerships , restaurants, etc .
It’s literally no different than buying advertising space in a program or paper

Make up your mind originally it was money then it’s the offense. Which is it money or the offense? Or is it whatever your father says?
Because nobody ever lied to the press in order to cast themselves in a better light? Because the comments dad made about getting what they were asking for from several other schools makes a case for tampering? Because some of the money will be under the table?

They all lie, there’s no doubt that there’s tampering but, the under the table is now on the table. However, there’s something called “bad advice” and that’s what’s happening in this case.

I am not sure why coaches don't ban together and just refuse to accept players who do stuff like this.

Because most of them are also the absolute scum of the earth themselves. You didn't know that?
They should have a hall of fame for the scummiest head coaches of all time. The list would be very long with some of the all time greats on the top of the list.

If I set the over/under on how long it would be after they all "banned" together that the first coach would secretly break the agreement at ten minutes, wouldn't we all take the under?

The coaches who agreed to do that and then broke the agreement would get an advantage, and there is nothing that those guys want more than an advantage.

Interesting article, particularly the part about Oregon notifying UT that Nico was being shopped to the Ducks before spring practice.

99.999% of those "deals" are pay for play provided by boosters. Eli Holstein has very close to a $0 value to a legit local business and you know that. Alliance 412 will pay him X amount and have him show up at animal shelter or food pantry. That's how this works. Like none of these deals are real, legit, arms-length business deals. The ones that are are the national ones you see because Turbo Tax and Dr. Pepper have shareholders and aren't boosters.

I'm going for door # 3 with - "band" even though yours works

any other options anyone? :)

What a shitshow for Nico, if what’s being reported is correct instead of nearly doubling his salary at Tennessee he will be playing at UCLA for a little more than half of what he cleared last season. That’s one hell of a pay cut.

And just to show there’s some symmetry to the situation incoming App St transfer QB Joey Aguilar has now decommitted from UCLA and will instead be going to play for Tennessee. Apparently he heard they had some NIL money that recently became available.

Some of these reports factor in the 12% California state income tax compared to the 0% tax in Tennessee. My guess is they matched his salary but he still comes out lower financially due to taxes and cost of living but Beverly Hills isn't a bad place to spend 8 months as a 20 year old millionaire.

I don’t think it will be even close. Most reports I’ve seen say he was scheduled to receive around 2.4 million from Tennessee this season, while his offer from UCLA was only about 1.5.

Yeah, UCLA doesn’t actually have a lot of money. His take home will be under $1m. Now, for a 20 year old that is great money, but he lost a $2.4m/year payday for the next 3 years because his Dad is an idiot.

And put a huge red flag on his draft status and playing for a worse team. They said they wanted better talent around him and UCLA sucks.

Yea but people on here always say money isn't everything, right? A lot of people would take that type of financial hit to live in Beverly Hills rather than friggin Knoxville, TN. He did the college town life for 2 years and now he gets to experience the Hollywood glitz and glam while being rich. Get him some Hollywood girlfriend and live that life.

Nico’s from Long Beach and was getting paid big money when he was still in high school, I’m sure he’s already experienced a lot of Hollywood glitz and glam. He and his dad has always been focused on the money aspect, no matter how you want to spin it this is a major defeat for the Iamaleava’s.

He wanted $4m and Tennessee said no. They overvalued his worth. It’s a simple as that. They can say whatever they want to spin it. This family is a nightmare to be involved with. His brother was committed to UCLA and signed with Arkansas on signing day without ever having visited. Well, right after Nico committed to UCLA, his brother went into the portal and committed to UCLA.

Tennessee got a few highly rated offensive linemen to protect Nico and he has 4 and 5 star receivers to throw to. Tennessee was a playoff team last year and UCLA stinks.

Long Beach isn't Hollywood. And you can't do everything there is to do as a 17 year old HS student.

Yea but I'm saying the guy is a millionaire living in Beverly Hills now who will probably end up dating a celebrity soon. This isn't like he's going to Oklahoma State. There may be no better place to live in the United States than Beverly Hills if you are rich. Some things aren't about money, right?

I don't think $3 or $4 mil is anywhere near enough to move to Beverly Hills and enjoy the celebrity lifestyle. He's not Caleb Williams and won't be enjoying any of the financial perks offered to a future high 1st round pick.

There's a high probability this is all about money. Nico is taking a hit, but his father can sell his house in North Knoxville and significantly cut down travel expenses. Knoxvegas isn't a bad place to live. Bryce Harper recently moved his family there.

He gets free food and housing so yea, he'll have enough money to live it up.

Walking around money, sure. I don't think you're moving to Beverly Hills and living a lavish lifestyle on $2 or $3 million though if there's a chance that yearly income might dry up 2 or 3 years down the road.

He’s a college kid

Are you telling me you think cost of living is gonna matter ?
How did you manage through college?
Me - was a part time job and credit card debt to have a helluva great time .
I’d rather have his circumstances of millions a year !
