That only shows the farce that the rankings can present. Pedstate started the season unranked. Didn't beat a single team that finished ranked until they beat a lucky to be there Utah in a bowl game. They beat two MAC teams at home, the worst Auburn team in years. Feasted on the mainly average to mediocre Fat 10 teams and got wasted by a Michigan team that lost to an overrated TCU team.
It only shows the influence that attendance, bowl affiliations, and perception of conference hype has in the rankings. Had Pitt started out unranked and finished 7th with the same resume the Nitters had, You and everyone on B & W would be blasting the rankings.
How was Utah lucky to be there? They won the conference championship game.
Using your logic Pitt is even more absurdly ranked. Losing to 3 unranked team with 5 or more loses each. Finally beating a top 25 team in UCLA who finished tied for 5th in the Pac 12. Got blasted by a 5 loss NC team. Losing to a 5-7 GT team. Wins include a FCS team and Mac Team. The rest of the wind were against mediocre to down right bad ACC teams.
