At that time I pointed out that dude shorts were getting too short and even too slim fitting. This trend started in Europe as all trends do. I remember BA losing my luggage in 05 and I had to search the continent for shorts that even got to my knees. I got a free wardrobe on BA's dime but I couldn't wear the sh*t stateside because it looked ridiculous. Too short, too tight. My wife made me try it on for people to get a laugh. However, those clothes are now in style.....sorta.

Long story short. Your shorts still gotta get to your knees. Past your knees is still ok but not too far past. We were at Disney for a week and I spent the entire trip analyzing the shorts that dad-aged men were wearing and honestly, a good 90% of the shorts reached the knees with a good portion going past. For the ones who had on short shorts, they were almost always European. I tried to overhear their conversations to confirm.

So, there you have it. Those old cargo shorts are still good to go!

You want to dress like a teenager, knock yourself out. Just quit trying to sell it to us as normal attire cause it’s not.

Listen, we all want to hang onto our youth, I get it. Hell, I’m 41 and I still put on a baseball cap from time to time when I head out so I know more then anyone. With that said, if you are still wearing the same style of clothes in your 40s as you did in your early 20s, you are sloppy.

Baggy cargo shorts and flip flops are ok for a college kid going to morning class with a hangover or a 24 year old going to a sublime concert at star lake ( how about that for aging myself) but not a 40 year old man.

I also see flood victim khaki pants (6 inches off the shoe) in the corporate world.

Men in America should wear shorts that are near the knee not too baggie and definitely not too tight.

Do not tuck in your shirt!!! And avoid socks that go above the ankle unless you are a professional cyclist or 90 and need diabetic therapy socks.

Baggie equals sloppy and makes you look heavier. Bigger guys can still wear nice fitting shorts.

Girls, you wear yoga pants all day everyday, or skimpy tight shorts.

Well done Swerve. Comepletely agree. I graduated from cargo shorts like 7-10 years ago, but the last pair there aren't so bad. Those jean shorts which are so wide, it looks like a skirt!

While I love comfortable gym shorts, down to the knees of course, again that is not a good look for a grown man unless you are working out/running or working in the yard/around the house or lounging. And except for an occasional quick 15 minute trip to Walmart (where anything goes and it would be considered formal wear), the gym short/t shirt look while shopping or out to eat or a Pirates game for a grown adult man is the height of sloppiness.

I prefer the neat golf shorts to the knee, that thin material that is really comfortable.

1st picture: the shorts are hanging too low. If his belt were keeping his shorts at his waist where they should be, those would be appropriate.

2nd picture: no

3rd picture: these are too short for straight men but maybe an inch longer and I am seeing straight men wear them. Guy on my street wore something similar to CHURCH a few weeks ago. CHURCH.

4th picture: acceptable but I'd prefer another inch longer so its to the knee

I'm telling you, add another inch and I am seeing straight guys where these. I thought you were talking about these in that thread a few weeks ago. These are common in Europe and have been for awhile and I pray it never comes to our shores in any meaningful way but its probably inevitable. I like shorts slightly above the knees (2 - 3 inches) and comfortable. I got off the fashion train years ago.

The inseam has to be at least 9" or 10". That puts them generally at a level a bit above or at the knee.
