Duke Football- No fans at games

I think Wolf is going to shut. it. down.

I mean the guy hasn't even been willing to increase seating capacity to 50% at restaurants yet.

Maybe we can do what the NBA is doing and have virtual fans cheering from our living rooms:)

To put it in perspective, NC has been at 50% capacity for restaurants the past few months or so....like I said if it is a no go for NC (although not sure if this was a Duke decision or in tied with the govenor), not looking good for Pitt.

Louisville announces 30 percent capacity for home football games, about 18,000 fans

Texas fans can purchase Texas Fan Cutouts of themselves or their pets for $50. Photos must be approved by school & cutouts will be displayed at all Longhorn home football games. Fan Cutouts are not required to wear masks

There is no consistency with the covid policies. Gov Wolfe can walk with a thousand protesters close together but you can't go to a football game in high school or college with 20%-25% capacity You see Walmart was crowded over the weekend and people were wearing masks. Go to Target and that's fine. Heinz Field is big enough and fans can wear masks. Fans can be spaced out.

Don’t blame the Governor. Most of the restaurants I drive by on the weekends are obviously far above 25% given the numbers of cars parked in their lots.

Of course I blame the Governor! He's the only one capable of officially lifting this ridiculous ban.

My question is what metric is he waiting for - or is it arbitrary like last time? No infections? Vaccine? What? In the meantime restaurants are going out of business because they can't maintain the unknown.

Are the NBA and NHL playing in a bubble because of the governor? Is MLB playing to empty stadiums because of the governor? Restaurants that followed the rules need only point to those that didn't for the predicament they are in. Blaming the governor is convenient and lazy.

Not really sure how the NBA/MLB has anything to do with PA restaurant capacity?

And frankly conflating these is part of the problem. Our numbers are way down in Allegheny County. There is zero reason he should be holding all these business owners hostage at this point. With all due respect, clearly this doesn't affect your own livelihood.

If Pitt/ACC says 25% of the seats at heinz can be occupied who shall we blame when they are not?

Not having 25-50% capacity is the lazy (more about lawsuit fear than safety) thing to do...

And every single time restrictions get relaxed, some people take it too far because they ordain themselves with "rights". "Let's open and limit seating and live with a few restrictions." Some bar owners hear "Let's open" and ignore the rest. We can't have nice things because some people just can't practice self control.

So let's punish all with no end in sight. Sounds reasonable.

How about the State and County officials work a bit harder and just punish offenders like they're doing in many other larger cities? Nah.....

We can't have nice things because some people just can't practice self control...not my take comrade.

last time I checked, some bar owners do not have 70,000 seat open air stadiums with 50,000 empty seats..

I was comparing the NBA/MLB to minor league football. But you knew that.

Way down compared to what ? June or the peak in early August ?

I’m not the one moving the goal post

I’m asking you to clarify your “way down” with the context you are using
Because cases and positivity are up substantially from before reopening began
81 positive cases on 8/19 and the number is dropping literally every single day.

The biggest issue is that there is zero communication from the county and state officials about what metric they're looking for before allowing a 25% bump. No one expects 100%. But they refuse to answer that. Is it 40 cases? 32? 10? Zero? Or is it not until there is a vaccine? It's called transparency.

And frankly their approach is lazy. At this point take the directive from cities much larger than Pittsburgh who successfully monitor establishments and closes those who don't follow the guidelines. They have/are destroying an entire industry.

So the short answer to my question is since 8/19

if you’re looking for the specific metrics
It seems to be positivity rates generating the guidance since that’s the stat being quoted by wolf at the county level
anything above 5% is not good
Allegheny county is at 5.4% last I saw down from 8.4% since the last interventions to shut down again
Seems to be working

So if tomorrow we got to 5%, they can open the next day? What are the rules???? Where did this arbitrary 5% come from cause I haven't read about any metric.

And what about ALL the counties who have been and continue to be below 5%? Why are they being forced to adhere to a statewide directive?

I don’t know
Below 3% means it’s likely safe to reopen
https://globalhealth.harvard.edu/evidence-roundup-why-positive-test-rates-need-to-fall-below-3/

states are all over the map regarding positivity rates and schools

I don’t have the answers and asking posters here for guidance isn’t useful .
Have you reached out to wolf and your reps?

LOL. A family member who this directly influences reaches out almost daily to Wolf and Fitzgerald. NO answers for anyone. In fact the State won't return anyones calls at this point.

This isn't brain surgery. You release the requirements. Everyone may not agree, but at least it's out there. You allow some breathing space for business owners who have no idea where/how to turn. It's ridiculous.

And btw the questions are rhetorical. You know - discussion?

Which begs the question....why have a state government?

It's almost like we needed some kind of coordinated national response (because viruses, uh, don't pay attention to lines on maps) and some sort of individual and business protection/stimulus (gasp...Socialism!!) coupled with available and affordable Healthcare to beat this thing quickly.

Screw it, let's leave it up to each state and city as people smarter than me providing guidance infringes on my God-given rights that JC himself wrote in ink on the constitution! 'Merica!!!

Well it is actually pretty complicated
As a for instance- let’s take out the cdc initial recommendations how to open schools safely .
It was great because it was instructive .
How long did that last before having all teeth removed due to political pressure
“Flanked by top administration health and education officials, Pence said the CDC next week will issue a "new set of tools ... to give more clarity on the guidance going forward.

"The president said today we just don't want the guidance to be too tough," Pence said at a White House coronavirus task force briefing at the Department of Education.”

now - take a state that has even less resources and try to tailor specific criteria -
Good luck

Interesting - I didn't realize PA hasn't been tailoring specific criteria since day 1.
