Are you allowed to do 50/50 drawings at college events? The pirates and Pens do it with great success.

Michigan State does it but I think the money goes to a foundation or scholarship fund not directly into the Athletic Department.

I suggested that Pitt have Beriel auction off a blue and gold corvette to the for AD and nothing ever happened.
Don't know if it is a violation of rules or not.

There are plenty of university scholarship funds, athletic and non-athletic, that would benefit from that. If they are allowed to do it, they should do it, during both football and basketball season.

They need to fundraise however possible. Heck, the Titusville campus is teetering on closing and that would devastate that town. The pressure to keep tuition costs down is only growing. They could even do it to benefit an endowment for financial aid or scholarships or UPT if there is no athletic-related scholarship fund they could put it into. They'd probably be able to endow a full scholarship in 2-3 years, but maybe that is optimistic.

The NCAA permits it. However under PA law the winnings are limited to $150,000 a year. So it not some great source of revenue. What should happen is Pitt, Penn State, and Temple should petition the state for an exemption similar to the pro teams exemption.

And then there is this: the value of any single prize awarded must not exceed $1,000 and no more than the equivalent of $10,000 may be awarded from the raffle per month. That pretty much would kill the idea.

They can get 10 special permits and award up to $150,000 combined. That not limited by the single prize limit.

Well maybe they should do that then. Or let the Pitt Wrestling Club do that (it is separate from the university and supports the wrestling program).

But it's Pitt, so the winner would bitch that it's not the correct shade of blue and gold.

The Pirates do a 50/50 raffle? How much do they actually earn? Works well for a bowling alley, but the Pirates?

They could have a different promotion each home game.

50/50
Bake sale
Beriel Chevrolet Corvette (that probably should be the homecoming game)
Spaghetti dinner
Fish fry
Rummage sale
Pre-game pot luck tailgate tent

Something for everyone.

Might as well put table games in the club lounges and slots in the concourses. People will actually come into the stadium early. Then shut them down at game time and reopen them afterwards.

If there's limits on winning for 50/50's try something else.
Go at it from another angle increasing attendance which is a revenue boost for PITT!
Get Corp sponsors and have give aways for people who buy season tickets, students and for general admission single game people. The New AD can figure out the details with her EMU staff.
People love giveaways if its good free stuff ( money & food) so have drawings during the game with prizes
-$ 250 /qtr/$ 500 after the game ends/announce a Corp Sponsor
-$ free season tickets to PITT football
- lunch or dinner with Lyke and Narduzzi announce the sponsor restaurant
-partner with the Steelers, PENS, and Pirates and give away game tickets randomly throughout the game
-ETC.
Hopefully this would motivate some on the fencers to attend the games.
Anything different would help!

How about a 0/100 raffle?
