I've read elsewhere that a redshirt was on the table. I went to the match at Virginia yesterday - he was there, seemed healthy (warmed up with the 157'er, Garbinsky and was successful the majority of the time), and while he was announced at 149 with Racciato, it was abundantly clear who was going out.
This is available to him and not Wilps, because while they both, essentially, missed half the year, Wilps already used his previously.
As badly as this team needs him - the depth was thin before Shaffer didn't fill the void at 141 - it's probably for the best. It'd also take a leap to see him beat Carter at 141 this year, where the need is much stronger. Better to get him adjusted to his new class - if it comes to that, get him right, and maximize the time he's here. 3.5 years of a talent like Bright or 4.5?
