Pitt softball went 2-3 in a round robin event in Leesburg, VA. They beat Akron 10-0 in a mercy rule game and beat Eastern Kentucky 7-1.
They lost to three Big Ten teams: Iowa 9-4 and MSU and PSU both by 1-0. The Big Ten is not a strong softball conference. I believe only Northwestern and Michigan are ranked in the top 25. All 3 teams we lost to are picked to finish in the bottom half of the conference. I believe PSU was 7-34 in 2021 and finished 13th, ahead of only Rutgers.
Except for the Iowa game, the pitching was good. Drogemuller pitched well against MSU, holding them to 4 hits, and against Eastern Kentucky. But, she got lit up by Iowa, getting knocked out in the 2nd inning. Muraskin pitched well against PSU, but gave up 2 runs in 2 innings against Iowa.
We were a pretty good hitting team last year except when we faced premium pitching, but we only scored in 1 of 21 innings against Big Ten pitching, scoring 4 runs in the 2nd inning against Iowa to temporarily tie the game.
