From Meyer

Well if you are a coach and creative math is your thing…add the empty trips down the court that Sibande and Horton aren’t handling or even touching the ball. See. Adds up — doesn’t it? Must be what he’s smoking, I mean, thinking.

In the scheme of things I don’t believe he’s blowing smoke up your arse or making excuses . For Pitt to win games I could see both players needing to score at least 12pts apiece . Which both were capable of doing .

They’d probably have bad games which Pitt would lose and good games where Pitt could’ve had a chance to win .

Not everything the man says is BS .

I am not saying the statements are untrue or bs, I am saying the statement is irrelevant to the success of the group, and only serves to lower expectations.
Of course the statement is irrelevant to whether they win or lose ,but not thinking that losing 2 of your top 5 rotation players doesn’t affect anyones chances of success of winning is wrong .

Look at the Steelers D line , with 2 of their starters out they stink !

No one wins without the players .

In college basketball, its call recruiting, each coach gets a chance to fill his roster with players that he sells the vision too, UMBC can do it!!!
I’m not saying anything about the effectiveness of JC recruiting , but it’s just a fact that 2 of his best offensive weapons aren’t playing . Both were capable of making 3pt shots which would’ve made both Hugley and Femi more effective. .

HaHa! What purpose does talking about hypothetical points scored by players not playing serve???
Everything that comes out of Capel’s mouth is an excuse:

Covid, defective bricks, arrests, injuries. How many excuses are even left?

So would you like him to say nothing or that everything is great ?

Why can’t he say that losing 2 of your best offensive players is effecting your effectiveness ?

When did he ever use Covid as an excuse? He described its effect on him, but that is not an excuse for anything. Why do people need to look for things to be critical of him - the performance of the team should be enough.

He said Covid hurt team chemistry because he could not have players over to his Shadyside home. He said Covid hurt recruiting as there could be no official visits to our wonderful city.

Covid was his go to excuse. Heather reinforced that excuse for him.

Where have you been?

Those quotes are from Lyke, not Capel - she said those things hurt Pitt.

Yes, in the article you posted, the one that I replied to, the quotes are from Heather Lyke.
Lyke did not say anything Capel hasn’t said.

Really? Was meant to indicate that you should know that. To prove that to you I linked an article with Capel quotes.

Capel has talked about Covid probably more than he has coached his team.

I know you hate Capel, so let's just leave it at that.

I think Capel meant without Horton and Sibande the team is down 24 points so far.

Yeah, I really don't care for these comments, sends the team up the creek with an excuse, plus putting excuses out there, its starting to sound like Stallings...

Its a legitimate excuse. However, losing your 3rd and 4th best players shouldn't make an ACC win difference of more than a few games if you recruited enough depth

It all seems so odd to me. Seems we were just having a similar conversation on this board recently about another coach but I don’t remember the specifics. We always complain that coaches give us nothing but coach speak in press conferences, but then when they give us candid moments we complain about that. I don’t get it.

I’m sure this comment appears a certain way in a vacuum, but in a post game presser there’s more context. The bottom line is the loss of the two players probably does account for 24 points a game ( 12pts each) and that’s being conservative when you take into account defense on the other end of the floor, and the trickle down that it has for other players on the floor because of the space created and attention that is created by the presence of these two players. One calls the comment excuses, while someone else might say it’s delivered in a way to praise the kids on the floor busing their asses trying to make up the difference.

im not going to blame Capel for an 0-20 season. But blaming him for a season that was likely going to be 6-14 is fair game.
