Good overview of Pitt Football - Article

It's like telling fans of 2/3 of NFL teams, you can never, ever win the Super Bowl. But maybe, and this is just a maybe, you might be in the second group that sometimes might make it to the wildcard. Except the wildcard rules are changed now and you can't advance past the wildcard game even if you win it. Your season ends either way. Be happy with that and keep spending and attending these meaningless games. It could be worse, you could be in group 3 that can't even get eligible for the wildcard game.

Really had to take half the article to talk about scheduling at the end when it's not one of the 'three things' you need to be good. Now we know what they really wanted to focus on.

The scheduling point sounds like a lot of whining - every Strength of Schedule tanking I’ve seen has Pitt in the 15 to 40 range.

He’s assuming that you are spotting Pitt 4 losses by scheduling ND, PSU, amd UCF plus the conf schedule.

He misses the point. Pitt gains next to nothing by doing this. Even if they won those games, it puts a heavy burden on the players and staff to get up to that level for three extra weeks. In a bubble that would make it sound like whining but when most of the programs you play aren't doing that, it ends up hurting your program.

So far as the money Pitt is spending, he's citing data from before the school started to put more money into athletics. I'm curious if that standing has changed or if Pitt is just keeping up. I also don't agree that recruiting is good enough but we've been over that a few times. I still think the bottom of his classes are too weak to have enough talent to push starters and have depth.

Odd that he has Michigan State lumped into that second group when they have already been in the CFP. With Urban out at OSU and Harbaugh not living up to expectations at Michigan, all it really takes for a team like MSU or Wisconsin--or even PSU--to get into the CFP is to have one respectable regular season loss and win the B10, and they're in.
