Got into a discussion earlier tonight with 3 penn state friends...

"steel_curtain, post: 1510442, member: 5476"]-Listen, and I said this a while ago. Until Penn State gets a defensive line, they are going nowhere. I dont care how many stars they have and what their recruit rankings are. If your defensive line sucks, you are competing for nothing, zero, zilch, nada, zip.
What if they put that DL together this year? They do have Great LBs and DBs don't you agree? They have had Top 15 Defenses in 2014 4th and 2015 14th? I am not challenging you, I am asking how one DL Unit will be so bad to what Win-Loss do you see?

- I warned those guys months ago about their D-line being a trainwreck this year. This is Penn State's head football coach in regard to his defensive line this year. This video is 2 weeks old. Skip to the 2 minute mark, and watch Penn State's Head football Coach put his head down when asked about his line play going into the season.
OK, but if the PS Offense does improve to give the PS Defense some rest won't they improve during the season?

-There is a reason Vegas thinks Penn State is winning 6.5 games this year. All this hype over Barkley and their new OC and how Penn State is winning 9+ games this year.
OK, I have heard the same thing from my Vegas Friends and the Islanders that helps set the lines, and you may be right, Barkley may have a Sophomore Curse and it will take time to put Moorhead System?

Their defense wont stop anyone's run game with a pulse. James Conner will send the message early when we pound the football so hard down their throat, they wont be talking about Pitt football again until next summer. When Penn State rebuilds the entire defensive line, then they can talk about competing with better teams. Until then, they better get used to 7-6 type seasons.
OK, does make sense and we shall see?

about the direction of the Pitt and penn state football programs. All I can say, is the "CULT" that we all joke around about, is real.
After discussing the issue for over a half hour, I finally just asked them the following...

Which team will PLAY in their conference's "Championship Game" first?

To my surprise (and these 3 all hold good paying jobs along with their graduate degrees) all of them, without hesitation said penn state. Naturally, I laughed because I see absolutely no way that penn state (especially with Franklin as their coach) in the near future, ever beats out Michigan, Michigan State and Ohio State to win their half of the Big 10 Conference. In regards to Pitt, the 7 teams in their half of the ACC are pretty much interchangeable from year to year. There will be some years where a school like Pitt has a legitimate chance of winning the Coastal Division. I'm not saying that it's going to happen this year, but winning it within the next 5 years definitely seems realistic in my opinion.
They told me that I must be drinking the Pitt "Kool-Aid". I think I'm being very fair and objective.
What do you guys think about the above question???
Collectively, UPS fans are the least knowledgeable, most parochial fans in the country....and it's been that way for years. I attended the Pitt/UpS game at Beaver stadium In what was either Marino's Freshman or sophomore year and Pitt beat them pretty handily. These nimrod farmers didn't even know who Marino was and were completely shocked at how good he was notwithstanding all the previous fanfare he had received. They are insular, they are downright dumb and they are UPS. Their cheer should be: "we are....stupid!"

"Inbred" is a good description...

Several professional prognosticators have picked Pitt to finish 2nd in the division this year, with a few picking them to win.
I haven't seen any projection that has Penn State higher than 4th.
