That has the potential to be an absolute disaster of a hire. He has essentially (only 3 years as DB coach at San Jose State) no college experience and wasn't even a good pro HC. Plus, he is 63. What is the best you could hope get out of him? 5 good years?

Look at Illinois with Lovie Smith. Purdue has already passed them up with a first year head coach

That's pretty crazy, although the nuttiest rumor I heard was that Tennessee was going to offer the job to Jason Whitten. Besides the fact that he's still an active player for the Cowboys, Whitten has never (to my knowledge) done any coaching at any level. Whitten immediately put this rumor to rest, but that was one bizarre rumor.
