Hello all. I’m new here, if you’ll have me. Pitt class of ‘02, big fan of the football team. I posted on ESPN back in the day under the same screen name, if anyone posted there. Great win today!

A few opinions since nobody knows me:

Pat Narduzzi; seems like a great guy who loves his players and the school, and his players seem to love him too. Great enthusiasm. I don’t think he’s recruited very well and didn’t care for how he was running his mouth before the PSU game. And for a defensive guy, his defenses have been consistently terrible. I don’t think he should be on the hot seat even if we miss another bowl, there’s been so much instability at the HC position and I don’t think Pitt is a destination job for someone better.

Pickett; he’s just not good. Made some clutch plays today but has been off all year. Bad poise, bad throws, shaky confidence. Even in today’s game he didn’t have a single completion in the second half until that last drive. The coaching staff doesn’t seem to have much confidence in him either. This is an opinion that I’m really hoping to be proved wrong.

Overall; I think Pitt is a mid tier ACC program and is playing and recruiting as such. They have the potential to be better with a great local talent pool and playing in the weak ACC coastal. Is Narduzzi the one to get us there? I’m still not sure.

You might rethink the talent local talent pool statement and I don’t agree with your evaluation of Pickett mid way thru his 1st full year at QB.

By local talent pool I didn’t necessarily mean local guys that we are successfully recruiting, just that western PA is a traditional hotbed for high school football talent. Idk if it’s fallen off a bit, it’s been a while since I lived there. As for Pickett, he seems like a good kid and obviously hope he does well. To his credit he hasn’t been asked to do much, so hopefully he builds on those flashes that he showed yesterday. He’s still very young.

Walt would have Kenny Pickett in the Heismann race. I am not joking. I think Pickett has as much talent, or more, than Pete Gonzalez, John Turman, and/or David Priestley. Walt flat-out knows offense.

Ahhhh.....those guys weren’t anywhere near Heisman contenders.

Back to actual ACC records since 2014

Clemson 27-2 (Pitt 1-0 verses)
Miami 19-9 (Pitt 2-2 verses)
VTech 18-10 (Pitt 2-2 verses)
Pitt 17-11
Louisville 16-13
FSU 16-14
UNC 15-14
NCST 14-14
VA 11-18
GTech 11-18
Duke 9-19

These don't seem right.

Miami 22-14
Pitt 21-15
Virginia Tech 21-15
Louisville 21-16
North Carolina 19-18
NC State 17-19
Georgia Tech 17-20
Duke 14-22
Virginia 14-23
Boston College 13-23
Wake Forest 10-26
Syracuse 10-27

These stats are a bit misleading. 8 of the ACC teams have had one or more terrible years (0 or 1 conference win) whereas Pitt has not. In some ways it's better to go through a year with a 1-7 ACC conference record if it means you are in the ACC title game 2 years later, then to be consistently mediocre and have the better overall record.

Having a former head coach come back as a position assistant creates a weird management dynamic. Sure, Walt can probably still coach quarterbacks well. They're not going to bring back a former HC as anything though.
